Job summary

Bayside Health is recruiting a part-time Medical Registrar-Admitting Registrar for fixed-term service across Acute Medical Ward and Emergency Department. The role involves assessing, admitting and initiating management of acute medical patients, with the team supporting transfers and responding to MET/Code Blue calls.

The position is structured as 0.6 FTE (48 hours per fortnight), three days per week (9:00am–5:00pm) with no after-hours shifts. Requires MBBS, AHPRA registration, and PGY3+ status.

Qualifications

• MBBS or equivalent degree enabling General registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
• Registration as a Medical Practitioner with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
• PGY3 or above
• A Police Check that is current and within 12 months of the date of issue
• Vaccination against influenza as directed
• Demonstrate professional and compassionate manners with patients and families
• Demonstrate rapport with Healthcare Team and participation in multidisciplinary care plans
• Understand admission and discharge processes within the Health Service
• Demonstrate a sound basis for managing common emergency conditions

The Team & Role

This part-time unaccredited Medical Registrar position provides supervised experience in the assessment, admission and initial management of acute medical patients. The role is based across the Acute Medical Ward and Emergency Department and is responsible for reviewing medical admission referrals, supporting timely patient transfers, assisting ward teams during periods of high activity, and responding to MET and Code Blue calls.

The Registrar works collaboratively with General Medical Physicians, HMOs, medical students and the broader multidisciplinary team, providing support and supervision to junior medical staff. The position is rostered three days per week, 9:00am–5:00pm, with no after-hours or night shifts.

Skills & Experience Required

MBBS or equivalent degree enabling General registration with the Medical Board of Australia

Registration as a Medical Practitioner with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

PGY3 or above

A Police Check that is current and within 12 months of the date of issue

Healthcare to whom the mandatory vaccination (influenza vaccination) directions apply, will be required to be vaccinated annually

Demonstrate a professional and compassionate manner with patients, their families and carers.

Demonstrate an appropriate professional rapport with the other members of the Healthcare Team - Medical, Nursing, Paramedical, Complex Care Co-Ordinator and Clerical Staff including participation in development of multidisciplinary care plans for patients that frequently present.

Understand the admission and discharge processes within the Health Service.

Demonstrate a sound conceptual basis for managing patients who present with common emergency conditions
