NSW Health Pathology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital is seeking two Medical Laboratory Assistants to support the Microbiology Laboratory. One full-time and one part-time permanent position are available.

The full-time role focuses on specimen reception and processing in a shift pattern that includes weekends and evenings. The part-time role covers administrative duties and specimen reception, 4.5 hours per day, Monday to Friday.

About the opportunity

NSW Health Pathology is currently seeking two dedicated and skilled individuals to support the Microbiology Laboratory at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Two permanent positions are available - one full time and one part time position.

The full time Medical Assistant position will predominantly be based in our specimen reception and processing area. This is a shift position working weekends and evenings,

The part-time Medical Laboratory Assistant position is 4.5 hours per day from Monday to Friday and will involve a combination of administrative responsibilities and specimen reception duties.
What you'll be doing

Contribute to a high-quality pathology service. Perform pathology specimen reception duties including receiving and triaging of specimens, patient registration and request entry, specimen processing and preparation for transport or delivery to laboratories for timely accurate diagnostic testing. Assistance with general administrative tasks within the laboratory such as procurement and roster entry will also be required.

Previous experience in a pathology setting or a demonstrated ability to learn all aspects of the pre analytical environment.

Demonstrated ability to manage tasks in a demanding environment where there are competing priorities and time constraints.

Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers, internal and external.

Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills combined with the ability to investigate and resolve general issues.

Ability to undertake various administrative tasks and perform duties with attention to detail.

Proficient computer skills including high attention to detail and data accuracy.

Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive information in a laboratory setting, following relevant legislation, policies, and requirements.
