Job summary

NSW Health Pathology at Royal North Shore Hospital is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to support the Bacteriology Division. The role is temporary full time, working 38 hours per week, with a rotating 24/7 roster after training and potential for ongoing employment.

Successful candidates will join a dynamic professional team and contribute to high-quality diagnostic testing in a frontline pathology service.

Qualifications

  • Recent demonstrated experience in a diagnostic clinical bacteriology laboratory.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage tasks in a demanding environment where there are competing priorities and time constraints.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers, internal and external.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills combined with the ability to investigate and resolve general issues.
  • Willingness to operate and maintain pre analytical equipment as required.
  • Proficient computer skills including high attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive information in a laboratory setting, following relevant legislation, policies, and requirements.
  • Willingness to participate in a 24/7 rotating shift roster, including weekends, public holidays, and night shifts, and the ability to travel to any site or location within the operational area as required.

About the opportunity

The Department of Microbiology at Royal North Shore Hospital is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Assistant to work in our Bacteriology Division of our department. The successful candidate will be working with a young, professional and dynamic team on a temporarily full time basis.

At the Department of Microbiology, Royal North Shore Hospital, you will be working with a large team of professional technical and scientific staff alongside with Staff Specialists. As a Medical Laboratory Scientist within the Department of Microbiology, you will be joining a vital diagnostic frontline and working closely with your team leaders who strive to deliver an exception service.

The Royal North Shore Hospital Campus is a short walk from St Leonards Station and is well connected to public transport. The hospital campus also has a car park for those who commute by car.
