Ashdown People is seeking an experienced Media & Communications Specialist for a NSW Government contract, starting immediately and lasting through December 2026.

You will manage media relations, develop strategic communications, support announcements and events, and advise on sensitive issues facing high-profile programs. Hybrid work arrangement; NSW-based with newsroom/government experience preferred.

Qualifikationen

Immediate Start | Contract through to December 2026 (multiple opportunities available)

An exciting opportunity is available for experienced Media & Communications Specialists to join a major NSW Government agency supporting high-profile operational and public-facing initiatives.

Working within fast-paced media and communications teams, you will play a key role in managing media relations, developing strategic communications, supporting announcements and events, and providing advice on complex and sensitive issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop media releases, statements, briefing notes, speeches and communication materials


• Manage media enquiries and provide timely responses


• Build strong relationships with journalists, media outlets and key stakeholders


• Support ministerial and executive communications activities


• Coordinate media events, announcements and public engagements


• Identify emerging issues and develop proactive communication strategies

About You

• Demonstrated experience in media, journalism, public relations or communications


• Strong media relations and stakeholder engagement skills


• Experience managing sensitive, high-profile or fast-moving issues


• Excellent writing, editing and content development capabilities


• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines


• Strong political awareness and understanding of the media landscape
  
• Newsroom or government communications experience highly regarded


• Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent professional experience

Applicants must be based in NSW for the duration of the contract. Participation in an on-call roster may be required.
