Job summary

Aware Super is seeking an experienced Media Advisor to join our External Affairs team in Sydney. You will lead development, pitching and delivery of proactive media stories across consumer, corporate and investment communications, working with senior leaders to elevate our voice in the market.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in media relations, journalism, communications or PR.
• Proven track record of earned media coverage.
• Excellent writing, storytelling and interviewing skills.
• Established relationships across Australian media.
• Experience handling media inquiries in fast-paced environments.
• Ability to identify reputational risks and advise senior stakeholders.

Your New Role

We're looking for an experienced Media Advisor to join our External Affairs team and help tell the stories that matter. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who loves finding compelling stories, building strong journalist relationships, and securing meaningful earned media coverage that enhances reputation and impact.

As Media Advisor, you'll lead the development, pitching and delivery of proactive media stories across consumer, corporate and investment communications. Working closely with our Senior Media Managers and business leaders, you'll identify newsworthy opportunities, engage with media, manage enquiries and help elevate Aware Super's voice in the market.

In this role some duties will include:

• Identify, develop and pitch engaging stories that showcase Aware Super's people, products, performance and member impact.
• Develop strong relationships with journalists, editors and producers across consumer, business, financial and trade media.
• Write media releases, statements, opinion pieces, briefing materials and spokesperson talking points.
• Manage media enquiries and coordinate responses across the business.
• Monitor media coverage and identify emerging reputation risks and opportunities.
• Support spokesperson preparation and media interview briefings.
• Contribute to proactive media campaigns that strengthen Aware Super's visibility and share of voice.
• Partner with stakeholders across the business to uncover compelling stories and thought leadership opportunities.

How do you exceed our expectations?

• 7+ years' experience in media relations, journalism, communications or public relations.
• A proven track record securing earned media coverage.
• Excellent writing, storytelling and interviewing capabilities.
• Established relationships across Australian media networks.
• Experience managing media enquiries in fast-paced environments.
• Strong judgement and the ability to identify and elevate reputational risks.
• Confidence working with senior stakeholders and spokespeople.
• Experience in superannuation, financial services or another regulated industry will be highly regarded.
