Job description

Join us in our mission to pave the new way of thinking for crane lifting and logistics

At Roborigger, you will be a part of an exciting Perth-based company that is now going international. Roborigger is a rapidly expanding company with products that improve safety and increase efficiency. We have a range of products that include the original load controlling device as well as our internet-connected data collection, logistic management and planning software, and input devices. We are at the forefront of the technologies that will transform the construction and resources industries.

The Roborigger product was originally developed by TENSA Equipment and Roborigger products are now in a separate entity with external investors (including TENSA Equipment as a major shareholder), called Roborigger Pty Ltd. TENSA Equipment has successfully been building fully certified lifting and drilling equipment for the global offshore oil and gas industry for over 10 years and is still supplying products and services for this industry.Roborigger inherits this breadth of experience and longevity – we are here for the long haul.

Our focus is now on developing our manufacturing and support capabilities worldwide. We need people who enjoy the challenge of walking on new ground with new ideas and implementing systems that achieve the highest standards in efficient ways. We are currently in the process of moving into a new factory in Wangara, WA and this would be an opportunity for a newly appointed Mechatronics or Electrical Engineer to participate in the efficient set up of this new workshop.

About the Role

We are looking for an electrical , electronics and controls engineer to support the product development, manufacture and support of Roborigger products. These include Roborigger systems and modular controllers, wireless remote-controlled hooks and data capture devices including cameras and scanners.

You will be working alongside a team of highly technical engineers (mechanical, electrical and mechatronic) and supported by our research and industry alliance with Curtin University, NERA, CORE Innovation Hub, and METS Ignited.

You will be involved in the design, building and testing of the onboard electrical and controls systems of Roborigger, covering:

  • Onboard microcontroller and software
  • Onboard IoT system and computer
  • Electrical systems

This role requires the ability to undertake detailed design of basic electrical, control and IoT systems for Roborigger. We recognise that you are unlikely to have experience in all of these skills but very strong skills must be exhibited in more than one of these areas.

Onboard micro-controller and software

  • Must have a good up to date knowledge of available microprocessors and the industry standards for software programming.
  • Have a good understanding of sensor interfaces and hardware design issues for interfaces in order to achieve high reliability.
  • Understand process for testing and verification of components in a small production environment.

Onboard IoT system and computer

  • Must be up to date with available AI hardware solutions for edge devices and able to select, specify and manage implementation of new processor platform, sensors and interfaces.
  • Strong mathematical skills for development of sensor algorithms to improve reliability of lift detection.
  • Exposure to IoT interfaces including aspects of communication, security, remote updates, reliability, etc. would be an advantage
Where you will be working

The work will be generally located at our assembly and service facility in Wangara, WA. The work will also involve visits to sites when supporting the equipment.

About you

You will have an electrical, electronics or mechatronic qualification as well as a minimum of 2 to 5 years experience in an environment where electronic components were manufactured and tested and where high quality standards were demanded. You will have electrical knowledge covering motor and motor control.

Overall, you must be a keen learner who has already demonstrated the ability to keep abreast of industry trends and technologies and has achieved self-initiated professional development in the last 2 years.
