Job summary

Mission Critical Recruiting is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer for data centre projects in Sydney. You will lead mechanical system design, oversee the full lifecycle, and coordinate with clients and contractors.

You'll develop HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection schemes, review consultant packages, and provide on-site support during commissioning and handover. A strong background in mission critical environments is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years in mechanical data centre or mission critical design.
• Proficient with CAD tools such as AutoCAD and Revit.

Responsibilities

• Oversee mechanical engineering across the full project lifecycle from site assessments to handover.
• Develop and coordinate HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems with specs.
• Support tendering, value engineering and client approvals.
• Review consultant design packages for compliance and schedule alignment.
• Provide on-site engineering support during commissioning and as-builts.

Salary: $220,000 - $240,000 + super and up to 50% bonus potential

Overview

Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in leading Mechanical system design and integration for data centres, or similarly complex, mission critical buildings?

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee mechanical engineering across the full project lifecycle, from initial site assessments and equipment cost planning through to design development, construction support and project completion.
• Develop and coordinate HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems, including technical drawings and engineering specifications.
• Support tender documentation, construction design, value engineering and client approval processes.
• Review and coordinate consultant design packages to ensure technical compliance and alignment with project schedules.
• Provide on-site engineering support during commissioning, final inspections and as-built documentation reviews.

Key Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• 10+ years in mechanical data centre (or mission critical) design
• Proficiency in CAD (AutoCAD, Revit)
• Knowledge of BMS
• Familiarity with ASHRAE and local building codes
• Strong problem-solving, project management and communication skills
