Job summary

Alfabs Mining is seeking an experienced Heavy Diesel Fitter to join our Kurri Kurri workshop team. You’ll maintain, diagnose, repair and overhaul underground mining equipment to the highest safety and reliability standards.

We offer a choice of casual or permanent employment, with 4 x 10-hour shifts or 5 x 8-hour shifts and overtime opportunities. Join a safety‑driven, established business focused on quality and its people.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification: Certificate III in Engineering (Mechanical Trade) or equivalent.
• Experience maintaining and repairing underground diesel machinery.
• Strong mechanical, hydraulic and diagnostic fault-finding abilities.
• Experience with component rebuilds and major mechanical overhauls.
• EXDesCode experience and RP experience desirable.
• Committed to safety, teamwork and quality workmanship.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair and maintain underground mining equipment.
• Fault-find and repair diesel engines, transmissions and hydraulics.
• Undertake major component change-outs and overhauls.
• Perform preventative maintenance, servicing and inspections.
• Accurately document repairs and testing outcomes.

• About the Role

Working within our Mining Workshop, you'll be responsible for the maintenance, diagnostics, repair and overhaul of underground mining equipment, ensuring machinery is maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability and performance.

Key responsibilities include:

• Diagnose, repair and maintain underground mining equipment, including LHDs, and auxiliary equipment.
• Fault-find and repair diesel engines, transmissions, gearboxes, differentials, braking and steering systems and hydraulic components.
• Undertake major component change-outs, rebuilds and overhauls, including engines, torque converters, pumps and hydraulic cylinders.
• Complete preventative maintenance, scheduled servicing, inspections and equipment testing.
• Accurately document repairs, maintenance activities and testing outcomes.
• Maintain high standards of safety, quality and workmanship.

What We're Looking For

• Trade qualification – Certificate III in Engineering (Mechanical Trade) or equivalent.
• Demonstrated experience maintaining and repairing underground diesel machinery.
• Strong mechanical, hydraulic and diagnostic fault-finding capabilities.
• Experience undertaking component rebuilds and major mechanical overhauls.
• EXDesCode experience – highly desirable.
• Licensed ExDEs Workshop orCP experience or RP experience– desirable.
• A proactive approach to safety, teamwork and quality workmanship.
