Job summary

Protech Group in Kurri Kurri is seeking an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic / Mechanical Fitter to service and repair underground mining equipment including boggers, trucks, drills and bolters. The role is day shift on a five-day roster with overtime available.

You will diagnose mechanical faults, perform maintenance, replace worn components, and ensure safety standards are met. A Cert III in engineering (mechanical trade) and prior mining equipment experience are required.

Qualifications

• Cert III in engineering (mechanical trade) required.
• Previous experience working on diesel underground mining equipment.

Responsibilities

• Repairing underground mining equipment such as boggers, underground trucks, jumbo drills and bolters.
• Diagnosing mechanical problems and fixing faults in diesel engines, transmissions, gearboxes, differentials, brakes, steering systems and hydraulics.
• Component change outs and overhauls including engines, transmissions, torque converters, differentials, steering cylinders and pumps.
• Servicing and preventative maintenance—oil changes, filter changes, fluid checks, part replacements and scheduled services.
• Testing machinery and recording repairs before returning to service.

Job description

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic / Mechanical Fitter to work for our client based in Kurri Kurri.

Duties will include:

• Repairing underground mining equipment such as boggers (LHD’s / Load Haul dump machines), underground trucks, jumbo drills & bolters, long-hole drills & auxiliaries
• Diagnosing mechanical problems – Finding & fixing faults with diesel engines, transmissions, gearboxes differentials, brakes, steering systems and hydraulic components
• Component change outs & overhauls – replace or rebuild worn engines, transmissions, torque converters, differentials, steering cylinders & pumps
• Servicing & preventative maintenance – changing oils & filters, checking fluid levels, inspecting components, replacing worn parts & completing scheduled services
• Testing machinery and recording repairs before returning it to service

Position requirements:

• Cert III in engineering (mechanical trade)
• Previous experience working on diesel underground mining equipment
• A commitment and high regard for safety in the workplace

The position is day shift & works on a Monday to Friday roster – 38 hours per week plus overtime. Flexibility with hours of work allows for the choice of 4 x 10-hour shifts (1 day off a week) or 5 x 8-hour shifts + overtime. Ordinary time pay rate is $69/h.
