Job summary

Birdon is seeking a Mechanical Equipment Specification Engineer for our Port Macquarie shipyard. This full-time role focuses on applying engineering analysis to specify mechanical and electrical equipment for projects, and includes managing equipment lists, BOMs, and QA documentation.

You will work with production and customers, promoting safety-in-design and ensuring compliance with marine standards. A degree in engineering and 3–5 years' experience are expected, with Chartered status

Qualifications

• Degree in an engineering discipline is required.
• 3–5 years' experience in an engineering organisation.
• Experience with design houses, bids and project delivery.
• Familiar with design software, simulation tools and mechanical design processes.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
• Knowledge of marine industry standards and Class compliance is advantageous.
• Chartered Professional Engineer status is beneficial.

Mechanical Equipment Specification Engineer

As we continue to grow, so too does our team. We are looking for the right candidate to take on the role of Mechanical Equipment Specification Engineer. This is a Full-Time role based in our Port Macquarie shipyard on the beautiful Hastings River.

Position Overview

The Mechanical Equipment Specification Engineer is responsible for the application of engineering analysis and design to support the specification and selection for mechanical (and electrical) equipment for assigned projects.

Key Accountabilities:

• Mechanical system engineering design and integration activities
• Identification, sourcing and requisition activities to support the procurement of mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Management and oversight of Equipment List and Bill of Materials for assigned projects.
• Development of engineering design and technical solutions to support project & production delivery
• Identification and management of technical risk
• Applying safety-in-design principles
• Supports implementation of the design solution from production, through to product acceptance by the customer
• Customer liaison and internal design meetings and reporting
• Development of QA documentation
• Project reporting for both internal and external stakeholders
• Proactively promoting quality, environmental responsibility & safety within the workplace, encouraging an outcome of Birdon being a place of work by choice.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

Tertiary qualifications at degree level in a relevant engineering discipline.

3-5 years’ experience working for an engineering organisation in a relevant industry.

Experience working in an Engineering Design house, support to bids and project delivery activities.

Familiarity with common design software, simulation tools, and mechanical design processes and methodologies

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, identify work priorities in a constantly changing environment.

• Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills across a broad range of stakeholders.

A working understanding of Commercial and Defence Marine Service Industry, as well as maintenance, service and Class compliance practices is highly advantageous

Chartered Professional Engineering status in relevant discipline

Knowledge of marine engineering and design principles, systems, techniques, and industry standards.

Ability to develop system documents, process standards, and high-level reporting.
