Job summary

Enviropacific, Australia’s leading environmentally focused service business, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering Team. You will design and deliver packaged water and wastewater treatment plants, creating fabrication-ready mechanical designs from concept to fabrication using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.

You will develop 3D models, equipment layouts and piping, translate PFDs/P&IDs into practical designs, and ensure compliance with Australian Standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Approximately 5+ years' experience in mechanical design, preferably involving process plants, packaged equipment, piping, skids or water treatment systems.
• Hands-on Autodesk Inventor and Vault capability with 3D assemblies and fabrication drawings; AutoCAD 2D/Plant 3D for PFDs & P&IDs.

Responsibilities

• Develop 3D models, general arrangements & piping layout; create 2D fabrication drawings and detailed mechanical designs.
• Develop equipment, piping and container/skid layouts for modular water and wastewater plants.
• Design mechanical systems, skids and supports; translate process requirements into practical designs.
• Perform mechanical design calculations (pipe sizing, pump selection) as required.
• Collaborate with fabricators and suppliers to resolve queries and ensure manufacturability.
• Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews and implement feedback and standardisation.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering Team, supporting the design and delivery of packaged water and wastewater treatment plants. This is a hands-on design role responsible for developing practical, fabrication-ready mechanical designs using 3D Autodesk Inventor and 2D AutoCAD, from concept and equipment layout through to detailed design and fabrication.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for:

• Developing 3D models, general arrangements & piping layout, 2D fabrication drawings and detailed mechanical designs using Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault.
• Developing equipment, piping and container/skid layouts that consider operability, maintainability, constructability and transport requirements.
• Designing mechanical systems, skids, pipework, supports and associated components for modular water and wastewater treatment plants.
• Translating process requirements, PFDs, P&IDs and equipment specifications into practical mechanical designs.
• Mechanical design calculations including pipe sizing, pump selection and other engineering assessments as required.
• Work closely with fabricators and suppliers to resolve design queries and ensure designs can be efficiently manufactured and assembled.
• Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews and incorporate feedback, standardisation and lessons learned into future designs.
• Preparing and maintaining drawings, bills of materials and other mechanical design documentation.
• Ensuring designs comply with project requirements, relevant Australian Standards, Codes of Practice and engineering good practice.
• Identifying opportunities to standardise designs, reduce fabrication costs and improve the reliability, constructability and maintainability of packaged treatment plants.

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will have:

• A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Approximately 5+ years' experience in mechanical design, preferably involving process plants, packaged equipment, piping, skids or water treatment systems.
• Strong hands-on Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault capability, including development of 3D Autodesk Inventor assemblies and production of detailed fabrication drawings, as well as AutoCAD 2D/AutoCAD Plant 3D for PFD & P&ID
• Experience designing mechanical equipment layouts, piping systems, skids, frames and/or fabricated assemblies.
• Ability to interpret PFDs, P&IDs, equipment datasheets and other engineering documentation.
• Good understanding of fabrication methods, materials and practical design-for-manufacture principles.
• Experience preparing general arrangements, fabrication drawings and bills of materials.
• Familiarity with relevant Australian Standards and mechanical engineering practices.
• Experience working with fabricators, suppliers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong practical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• A collaborative approach with a focus on safety, quality, standardisation and continuous improvement.

Experience in water/wastewater treatment, modular process plants, containerised systems or skid-mounted equipment will be highly regarded.
