Qualifications

  • Mechanical trade qualification and fitter ticket.
  • Experience leading mechanical maintenance in underground coal mining, preferably bord and pillar.
  • Knowledge of underground mining equipment such as continuous miners and shuttle cars.
  • Experience managing contractors and driving continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, lead and support the mechanical trade workforce to deliver safe, reliable and cost-effective maintenance outcomes.
  • Plan, schedule and coordinate planned, breakdown and shutdown maintenance on the Whynot fleet.
  • Ensure compliance with Mechanical Engineering Control Plan and Mine Inspection Plan.
  • Improve equipment availability through root cause analysis and condition monitoring.
  • Manage mechanical spares, component rebuilds, budgets and contractor resources.
  • Work collaboratively with Production, Electrical, Engineering and Supply teams to plan and prioritise maintenance activities.
  • Ensure work orders, inspection records and maintenance documentation are accurately maintained.
  • Demonstrate a strong safety focus and actively promote site health and safety requirements.
  • Support the development of a positive, high-performing working culture.

ABOUT THE ROLE

To support our ongoing growth, we are currently seeking a Mechanical Coordinator to join our Whynot Bord and Pillar Team. Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent | Whynot, we are ideally looking for an experienced mechanical maintenance leader with demonstrated problem-solving skills and proven experience coordinating the mechanical maintenance of our Bord and Pillar mining equipment.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
  • Coordinate, lead and support the mechanical trade workforce to deliver safe, reliable and cost-effective maintenance outcomes across the Whynot Bord and Pillar operation.
  • Plan, schedule and coordinate planned, breakdown and shutdown maintenance on the Whynot fleet, including continuous miners, shuttle cars, roof bolters, feeder breakers and diesel support equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with the Mechanical Engineering Control Plan, Mine Inspection Plan and all statutory mechanical maintenance and inspection requirements.
  • Improve equipment availability and reliability through root cause analysis, condition monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage mechanical spares, component rebuilds, budgets and contractor resources to achieve operational and financial targets.
  • Work collaboratively with Production, Electrical, Engineering and Supply teams to plan and prioritise maintenance activities.
  • Ensure work orders, inspection records and maintenance documentation are accurately maintained.
  • Demonstrate a strong safety focus and actively promote site health and safety requirements across the wider team.
  • Support the development of a positive, high-performing working culture.
ABOUT YOU

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • A Mechanical Trade Qualification (Fitter)
  • Proven experience in a mechanical maintenance leadership or coordination role within an underground coal mining environment, ideally bord and pillar.
  • Sound working knowledge of underground mining equipment, including continuous miners, shuttle cars and diesel equipment.
  • Working knowledge of the Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Act and regulations, including Mechanical Engineering Control Plan requirements.
  • Experience managing contractors and identifying continuous improvement initiatives.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and strong communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and leadership skills, including excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of Pulse Maintenance System (or similar) is highly desirable.
  • Post-trade or engineering qualifications would be highly regarded
