Job summary

Laminex is seeking a Mechanical Fitter & Turner Apprentice at our Toolara MDF facility in Queensland. You’ll complete a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade while gaining hands-on experience maintaining, repairing and improving manufacturing equipment to keep the plant safe and efficient.

Under experienced mentors, you’ll learn preventative and breakdown maintenance, installation, alignment, and fault finding, while adhering to health and safety standards and using a computerised

Laminex is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Mechanical Fitter & Turner Apprentice to join our maintenance team at our MDF manufacturing facility in Toolara, Queensland.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn your trade in a modern, large scale industrial environment while working alongside highly skilled tradespeople. Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll gain hands on experience maintaining, repairing and improving a wide range of manufacturing equipment that keeps our plant operating safely and efficiently.

About the Role

As a Mechanical Fitter & Turner Apprentice, you will complete a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade while receiving practical on-the-job training.

Working under the guidance of experienced Mechanical Fitters, you will develop skills in:

  • Preventative and breakdown maintenance of industrial plant and equipment.
  • Installation, alignment and commissioning of mechanical equipment.
  • Bearings, gearboxes, pumps, conveyors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Precision measurement, fitting and assembly techniques.
  • Fault finding and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Safe use of workshop machinery and hand tools.
  • Welding and fabrication tasks where required.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical manuals.
  • Working within a computerised maintenance management system (MEX).
  • Maintaining a strong commitment to workplace health, safety and environmental standards.

As your apprenticeship progresses, you’ll take on increasing responsibility while building the skills needed for a successful long-term career in industrial maintenance.

  • Committed to completing all TAFE and workplace training requirements.
  • Previous experience with machinery, automotive work, farming equipment, fabrication or trade-related hobbies will be viewed favorably but is not essential.
