Job summary

WesTrac Cat in Tomago, NSW is seeking a trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter to join the Component Rebuild Centre (CRC). You will refurbish, overhaul and assemble critical mechanical components in a modern workshop, ensuring rebuilds meet OEM standards.

Reporting to the Leading Hand/Supervisor, you will read drawings, fit components, perform inspections and maintain quality documentation while prioritising safety. This full-time role offers career progression within a large Cat dealer network.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical Trade Qualification (Fitter) or equivalent.
  • Experience in mechanical fitting, assembly, overhaul and refurbishment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers and gauges.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • A proactive approach to safety.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Precision fitting, assembly and installation of mechanical components and sub-assemblies.
  • Dismantling, inspecting and refurbishing equipment and components.
  • Diagnosing wear, defects and mechanical failures.
  • Replacing bearings, seals, bushes, shafts, housings and couplings.
  • Measuring, checking and verifying tolerances using precision instruments.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Conducting alignment, calibration and functional testing activities.
  • Completing quality inspections and workshop documentation.
  • Contributing to a safe, productive and high-performing workshop environment.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and team success.

About The Opportunity

Tomago, NSW | Full-Time Permanent Position

Are you a trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter who takes pride in quality workmanship, precision assembly, and component rebuilds?

We're seeking an experienced Fitter to join our Component Rebuild Centre (CRC) team in Tomago. Working in a modern workshop environment, you'll play a key role in the refurbishment, overhaul, and assembly of critical mechanical components, ensuring equipment is rebuilt to the highest quality and OEM standards.

What you’ll do

What you’ll bring

To be successful, you will have:

Desirable
  • Experience in a component rebuild or workshop-based environment
  • Exposure to heavy equipment or industrial machinery
  • Forklift, Dogging or other High Risk Work Licences
  • Overhead crane experience
