Job summary

WesTrac is seeking skilled Plant/Heavy Diesel Mechanics for its Mt Thorley Rebuilds Workshop in the Hunter Valley. You will work on CAT machines through teardown, rebuild and commissioning to ensure peak performance.

The role invites strong diagnostic abilities and a safety-first approach in a modern facility with a stable team. Expected hourly rates start at $60 per hour with overtime from $89 per hour, plus benefits such as parental leave, income protection and relocation assistance.

Qualifications

  • Australian recognised Mechanical Trade Qualification (Plant / Heavy Diesel).
  • Proven rebuilds, component overhaul or heavy equipment experience.

Responsibilities

  • Strip, rebuild and reassemble CAT machines and major mechanical components.
  • Conduct inspections, diagnostics and quality checks throughout the rebuild lifecycle.
  • Carry out scheduled maintenance and mechanical adjustments to meet specifications.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and well‑organised workshop.
  • Collaborate closely with Supervisors and team members to deliver quality rebuilds on time.

Job description

Join our Mt Thorley (Hunter Valley) Rebuilds Workshop and be part of a highly skilled mechanical team delivering industry‑leading CAT machine rebuilds to world‑class standards.

* This role is suited to Plant / Heavy Diesel Mechanics with rebuild or heavy equipment experience - not light vehicle backgrounds.*

As part of our rebuild team, you'll support the full mechanical rebuild lifecycle from teardown to commissioning, ensuring every machine is delivered safely, reliably, and ready for peak performance.

  • $60-$89+/hr incl allowances + OT, paid fortnightly
  • Workshop OEM CAT rebuilds, modern facility, stable team
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Strip, rebuild and reassemble CAT machines and major mechanical components
  • Conduct inspections, diagnostics and quality checks throughout the rebuild lifecycle
  • Carry out scheduled maintenance and mechanical adjustments to meet specifications
  • Maintain a clean, safe and well‑organised workshop

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
  • Australian recognised Mechanical Trade Qualification (Plant / Heavy Diesel)
  • Proven rebuilds, component overhaul or heavy equipment experience (essential)
  • Experience on CAT or similar surface mining equipment
  • Strong diagnostics and fault finding capability
  • Proactive, safety-first mindset; unrestricted driver's licence
