Job summary

Oxley Highway Vet Hospital in New South Wales is seeking an experienced Veterinary Nurse to join our friendly team on a 6-month maternity leave cover contract, with the potential for ongoing employment. You will assist veterinarians with routine exams and procedures, provide surgical and hospital nursing care, monitor anaesthesia, and support clients through treatment plans.

A calm, proactive approach and strong teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years’ experience as a qualified Veterinary Nurse.
• Confidence in both surgical and medical nursing.
• Strong anaesthetic monitoring skills.
• Excellent communication and client care abilities.
• Ability to work well within a close-knit team.
• A calm, organised, and proactive approach under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Assisting veterinarians with routine exams and procedures
• Providing surgical and hospital nursing care, including anaesthetic monitoring
• Delivering pre- and post-operative patient care, as well as offering grief support to clients
• Administering medications and preparing treatments as required
• Managing the admission and discharge process for surgical and hospital patients
• Communicating treatment plans and updates to clients
• Performing blood collection, testing, and IV catheter placement
• Assisting with diagnostic imaging (x-rays and ultrasounds)
• Supporting dental care, including scale and polish and performing dental x-rays
• Contributing to day-to-day nursing tasks to support our vets and team in providing the highest standard of patient care
