  • Develop a fundraising plan with targets and timelines; coordinate campaigns and donor activities.
  • Identify sponsorship, corporate partnership and donor opportunities; prepare proposals and updates.
  • Support media opportunities and build relationships with media, ambassadors and community champions.
  • Collaborate with staff to deliver marketing and fundraising priorities and maintain records and reporting.

Position purpose

The Marketing and Fundraising Coordinator will strengthen Epilepsy ACT’s profile, community engagement and financial sustainability through focused marketing, communications and fundraising activity. Working within priorities agreed with the CEO, the role will promote the organisation’s training and services, deliver communications and campaigns, and strengthen relationships with supporters and partners.

This is a hands‑on role in a small organisation, combining planning with practical delivery. The successful applicant will write and create content, coordinate agreed campaigns, engage with stakeholders and review results.

Key responsibilities
1. Marketing and communications
  • Develop and implement an annual marketing and communications plan agreed with the CEO and aligned with Epilepsy ACT’s strategic priorities.
  • Plan, create, schedule and monitor content across Epilepsy ACT’s social media channels, website, email newsletters and other communication platforms.
  • Create clear and engaging content for social media, newsletters, the website, campaigns, media and stakeholder communications, in line with Epilepsy ACT’s brand and messaging.
  • Deliver targeted marketing activities to increase awareness and uptake of Epilepsy ACT’s training and services.
  • Maintain a content calendar, coordinate approvals with the CEO and relevant staff, and monitor enquiries, engagement and training leads.
2. Fundraising and supporter engagement
  • Develop a fundraising plan with priorities, targets and timelines agreed with the CEO.
  • Coordinate agreed fundraising campaigns, appeals and community fundraising activities, including Make March Purple and other priority initiatives.
  • Identify suitable sponsorship, corporate partnership, workplace giving and donor opportunities.
  • Prepare supporter proposals, sponsorship materials, acknowledgements and impact updates.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with donors, sponsors, community fundraisers and other supporters.
  • Contribute to identifying grant opportunities and preparing agreed applications. The CEO retains responsibility for the organisation’s overall grant program.
3. Media, partnerships and organisational support
  • Support agreed media opportunities, including developing local media relationships, coordinating enquiries and preparing briefing material with the CEO. The CEO remains the primary organisational spokesperson unless otherwise approved.
  • Support ambassadors, advocates and community champions, and work sensitively with clients, families and supporters to develop stories with informed consent and appropriate regard for privacy and dignity.
  • Provide marketing and fundraising support for agreed priority events, campaigns and community engagement activities.
  • Build productive relationships with community organisations, businesses and sector partners.
  • Work collaboratively with staff to deliver agreed marketing and fundraising priorities.
  • Maintain appropriate records, contact information, consent documentation and campaign files, and provide regular reports to the CEO and Board on activity, expenditure and outcomes.
Key priorities for the first 12 months
  • Establish an annual marketing, content and fundraising calendar.
  • Improve Epilepsy ACT’s social media, newsletter and website communications.
  • Deliver targeted promotion of Epilepsy ACT’s training and services.
  • Strengthen engagement with existing and prospective supporters, sponsors and community fundraisers.
Selection criteria
Essential
  • Demonstrated experience in marketing and communications, with experience or a strong interest in fundraising and community engagement.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to adapt content for social media, newsletters, websites, media and stakeholder audiences.
  • Practical experience planning and delivering campaigns from concept through to evaluation.
  • Confidence developing professional relationships with supporters, partners and community stakeholders.
  • Sound judgement when handling personal stories, consent, privacy and sensitive information.
  • Strong organisational skills, initiative and the ability to manage agreed priorities with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a small, flexible and purpose‑driven team.
  • Competence using common digital tools, including social media platforms, email marketing systems, website content systems and design software such as Canva.
Desirable
  • Experience in the not‑for‑profit, health, disability or community sector.
  • Experience developing sponsorship proposals, donor communications or community fundraising campaigns.
  • Media relations experience, including preparing media releases and coordinating interviews.
  • Experience marketing education, training or professional services.
  • Basic photography, video editing, graphic design or website content skills.
Employment requirements
  • Current ACT Working with Vulnerable People registration, or willingness to obtain it.
  • National Police Check, or willingness to obtain one.
  • Current driver licence and access to reliable transport for local activities where required.
  • Some flexibility to attend occasional events or activities outside ordinary office hours, with arrangements agreed in advance.
