Job summary

Serco is seeking a Maritime Engineer to support the Defence Maritime Support Services (DMSS) contract from Garden Island, NSW. You will deliver engineering changes, investigations and technical support, and coordinate with the SPO, site teams and subcontractors to ensure vessel safety and availability.

The role covers configuration management, data, governance and continuous improvement, with travel to Serco Defence locations as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum five years' engineering experience within Defence, maritime or a similar environment.
  • Experience delivering engineering changes and technical problem-solving.

As a Maritime Engineer, you'll provide engineering expertise across Serco's Defence Maritime Support Services (DMSS) contract, supporting the safe and effective sustainment of maritime assets.

Working with the DMSS Engineering Manager, SPO Engineering Team and operational stakeholders, you'll apply your maritime engineering experience across engineering change, investigations, configuration management and asset sustainment. Based at Garden Island, NSW, the role includes travel to other Serco Defence locations as required.

Within This Role You Will
  • Deliver engineering changes, investigations and technical support across the DMSS contract.
  • Provide engineering advice supporting safe, compliant and effective vessel sustainment.
  • Monitor vessel condition, equipment performance and emerging sustainment requirements.
  • Manage configuration, technical data and engineering documentation to maintain accuracy and control.
  • Support engineering governance, assurance, technical risk management and IFS/EAMS improvement.
  • Collaborate with the SPO, site teams, technical subcontractors and engineering stakeholders.

The role is expected to obtain Engineering Authority Level 2 (EAL2) delegation under Serco's Delegations Framework.

You'll bring sound technical judgement and experience working across the technical and operational aspects of maritime sustainment. You'll be comfortable working with engineers, maintainers and Defence stakeholders to support safe operations, vessel availability and Defence capability.

You Could Be a Great Fit If You Have
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or a related discipline
  • A minimum of five years' engineering experience within Defence, maritime or a similarly complex engineering environment
  • Experience delivering engineering changes and technical problem-solving
  • Experience conducting or leading engineering investigations, including root-cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Knowledge of systems engineering and engineering change management
  • Experience in vessel design, repair, sustainment or maintenance, with marine design experience highly regarded
  • Eligibility for Chartered Engineer (CPEng) registration or equivalent
  • A current Class C driver's licence

Experience working with Defence/Navy contracts or within a Systems Program Office, CMMS/EAMS platforms, AMSA and NSCV requirements, Class rules, or mooring and water marker systems will also be highly regarded.
