Job summary

Aldesta Heron Island Resort on Heron Island operates the Heron Islander, based out of Gladstone, Queensland. We are seeking a Permanent Marine Engineer MED1 to oversee the vessel's machinery, support dredging operations, and transport guests, researchers, staff, and freight between Gladstone and Heron Island.

Reporting to the Skipper, you will perform day-to-day machinery operation, maintenance, and watchkeeping while ensuring safety, compliance, and timely execution of duties in a fast-paced

Qualifications

• AMSA MED1 (Marine Engine Driver Grade 1) or higher.
• Current AMSA Medical check.
• High Risk Work Licence advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and operate day-to-day machinery and planned maintenance.
• Stand engine room watches and carry out routine checks.
• Maintain engine room logs, records and compliance documentation.
• Assist deck operations as required.
• Be responsible for defect identification and rectification.
• Support a strong safety culture onboard.

Job description

ALDESTA Heron Island Resort is seeking a Permanent Marine Engineer MED1 for the Heron Islander, operating out of Gladstone, Queensland.

Reporting to the Skipper onboard, you'll assist with operation, maintenance and watchkeeping of the vessel's machinery, supporting dredging operations and the daily transport of guests, researchers, staff and freight (190-passenger capacity) between Gladstone and Heron Island.

Roster is 1 week on/1 week off, with Tuesdays for maintenance. You'll also assist in maintaining compliance with all relevant laws, company policies and the vessel's Safety Management System.

Key responsibilities

Monitor and execute day-to-day machinery operation and planned maintenance.

Standing engine room watches and carrying out routine checks.

Helping maintain engine room logs, records and compliance documentation.

Assisting deck operations as required.

Be responsible for defect identification and rectification.

Supporting a strong safety culture onboard.

About you

AMSA MED1 (Marine Engine Driver Grade 1) or higher.

Current AMSA Medical check.

High Risk Work Licence advantageous.

Be available to work 1 week on / 1 week off rotation - including weekends and public holidays.

Ensure safe and secure operations at all times.

Work harmoniously and professionally within and across teams.

Demonstrate experience working in fast-paced, professional, dynamic teams.

You will have to provide evidence of right to work in Australia and a National Criminal Record check.
