Job summary

Gilmour Space Technologies is seeking a Manufacturing Technician – Avionics to join our high‑tech team building rockets in Australia. You will contribute to electronic/electrical assembly, system modification, harness manufacturing and prototype assembly under Engineers, following schematics.

Ideal candidates hold a Certificate IV in Aeroskills – Avionics with 3+ years in a high‑reliability manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in a high reliability and quality manufacturing environment, space/aerospace preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of avionics and electrical systems as core competency.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent time management, interpersonal and organisational skills.
• Passion for advancing the commercial space industry.

Responsibilities

• Electronic / Electrical assembly and system modification.
• Assembly of mechanical enclosure / components and harnesses.
• High level soldering to PCB level and fault diagnosis.
• Work with Engineers to assemble prototypes from schematics and report changes.
• Conduct and record product tests to support production processes.
• Operate power tools and perform manual handling safely.
• Ensure compliance with procedures and regulatory obligations.
• Identify safety, quality, efficiency and cost improvements.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Planning, Quality and Manufacturing teams.

How you will contribute to our mission in getting Australia to space:

• Electronic / Electrical assembly
• System modification and installation of electrical / avionics systems
• Electrical circuit fault finding and diagnosis
• Mechanical enclosure / component assembly
• Harness manufacturing
• High level soldering skills to a PCB level
• Work closely with Engineers to assemble prototype products based on schematic diagrams; accurately mark changes when instructions vary and report changes
• Conduct and record product tests and diagnostic activities to support the production process
• Use of power tools, manual handling
• Ensure all work complies with company procedures, engineering requirements and regulatory obligations
• Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, efficiency and cost
• Maintain effective working relationships with Engineering, Planning, Quality and Manufacturing teams
• Other duties as requested by Management

Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Certificate IV in Aeroskills – Avionics
• 3+ years of experience in a high reliability and quality manufacturing operating environment, ideally within the space / aerospace industry
• Extensive knowledge of avionics and electrical systems
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent time management, interpersonal and organisational skills.
• Have a passion for advancing the commercial space industry

Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Knowledge of temperature, pressure, and flow measurement devices, mechanical and electrical systems, and propulsion systems
• Skill in operating and manipulating machinery with great manual dexterity
• Experience with forklifts, cranes, and heavy equipment
• Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with Engineering and Production
• Ability to rapidly adapt to changes in direction while working in a fast-paced, challenging work environment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
• Experience with configuration management, non-conformance reporting, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
• NV1 Security Clearance eligible preferred
