Job summary

Tenterfield Shire Council seeks an experienced leader to drive end-to-end service delivery across water, wastewater and waste. You will oversee capital works, asset management and compliance, with four direct reports and eight on indirect reports, ensuring safe, on-budget operations.

Reporting to the Director Infrastructure Services, you will balance current service needs with long-term infrastructure priorities while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships and public accountability.

Qualifications

• Practical, solutions-focused leader with water, wastewater or waste operations background.
• Engineering, environmental or infrastructure qualifications (or equivalent experience).

Responsibilities

• Lead water, wastewater and waste services with four direct reports and eight indirect reports.

• Manage operating and capital budgets (approx. $9.3M operating, $10M capital).
• Develop and implement the Waste Management Strategy for the Council.
• Lead and develop staff, ensuring safety and clear stakeholder communication.

Job description

Tenterfield Shire Council is seeking an experienced leader to lead end-to-end service delivery across water, wastewater and waste services.

The Position

Working closely with the Director Infrastructure Services, you will lead Council's water, wastewater and waste services, with four direct reports and eight indirect reports.

This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing capital works, maintenance, asset management, statutory compliance and Council's Waste Management Strategy. You will manage approximately $9.3 million in operating and $10 million in capital budgets, maintaining reliable services while addressing ageing infrastructure and competing priorities.

About You

You are a practical, solutions-focused leader with a strong background in water, wastewater or waste operations, supported by relevant engineering, environmental or infrastructure qualifications, or equivalent experience.

You support and develop your people, make sound decisions within available resources, and balance immediate service needs with long-term infrastructure priorities. You take responsibility for difficult decisions and act in the public interest.

You will also bring:

• Proven leadership of technical teams, including coaching, performance management and succession planning.
• Sound asset management experience and the ability to deliver capital works on time and within budget.
• Financial judgement and experience in procurement, contract management and grant applications.
• The ability to communicate clearly with all stakeholders.
• A commitment to a safe, respectful workplace.
