Job summary

The Department of Justice and Community Safety, Victoria is seeking a Manager, Public Law & Litigation to lead a team of lawyers on complex government matters. You will guide ministers and the department by delivering clear legal and policy advice and shaping strategic responses to court cases.

You will mentor and manage workloads, build an inclusive team, and foster strong relationships across government to resolve difficult legal issues for the Victorian community.

Qualifications

• Admitted to practise law in Victoria or eligible for admission.
• Experience advising on public or administrative law.
• Experience in civil or criminal litigation.
• Knowledge of Victorian Government processes.
• Leadership and mentoring abilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide clear legal and policy advice to ministers and the department.
• Manage sensitive court cases, including class actions and other major disputes.
• Research complex legal questions, interpret laws and guide the preparation of legal documents.

What you will do. As manager, public law & litigation, you will lead lawyers who advise on government decisions and court cases. You will help ministers and the department resolve complex legal issues.

About you. You must hold admission to practise law in Victoria or qualify for admission.

• experience advising on public or administrative law, or working in civil or criminal litigation
• knowledge or experience of Victorian Government and Cabinet processes
• leadership skills to support a diverse team, adapt to change and build trust
