Job summary

NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure seeks a Manager, Leadership Development to translate workforce priorities into practical leadership programs. You will lead multiple initiatives, balancing long-term goals with delivery in a dynamic environment, and collaborate with leaders and partners to embed new capabilities.

You will create scalable solutions, develop learning tools, and nurture a learning ecosystem including coaching and peer coaching, to uplift leadership capability

  • Proven ability to design and deliver scalable leadership development solutions in complex organisational environments.
  • Experience in leading multiple concurrent initiatives with governance, risks and dependencies.
  • Expertise in contemporary adult learning principles and on-the-job learning approaches.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders to drive adoption and sustainable outcomes.
  • Experience creating practical frameworks and peer-based learning approaches.

The role

The Manager, Leadership Development helps turn workforce priorities into practical leadership development initiatives and solutions that make a real difference across the organisation. The role leads a range of programs, balancing long-term goals with day-to-day delivery in a fast-paced, complex environment with changing priorities. It focuses on creating practical, consistent solutions that can be used across the department.

Working closely with leaders, subject matter experts and external partners, the role plans and delivers multiple initiatives at the same time. It manages risks, dependencies and governance requirements, while developing relevant tools, resources and frameworks that support leadership growth and reflect contemporary adult learning approaches.

The role also creates opportunities for leaders to learn from and support one another through our learning ecosystem which includes, coaching, peer coaching, learning experiments, learning in the flow, learning modules and shared learning. By partnering with leaders and managers, it helps embed new skills and ways of working into everyday practice, creating lasting improvements in leadership capability across the organisation.

What you will bring to the role
  • Proven ability to design and deliver scalable leadership development solutions in complex organisational environments
  • Strong project management capability, with experience leading multiple concurrent initiatives and managing governance, risks and dependencies
  • Expertise in contemporary adult learning principles, including experiential, social and on-the-job learning approaches
  • Ability to influence and partner with senior stakeholders to drive adoption and embed sustainable capability outcomes
  • Experience developing practical frameworks, tools and peer-based approaches (including coaching and peer coaching) that build leadership capability at scale
Key skills and experience
  • Proven experience in project management and the design and implementation of talent management projects such as leadership and management development, talent and succession planning within complex organisations.
  • Proven experience in engaging and leading teams to deliver outcomes and balance employee wellbeing.
What is an essential requirement:
  • Tertiary qualifications in leadership, management or organisational psychology, organisational development, learning and development, adult education, and/or equivalent professional experience.
