  • Support accountability and delegation arrangements, helping stakeholders understand responsibilities.
  • Identify and lead initiatives to simplify and strengthen governance processes.
  • Develop guidance, training and communications to build governance knowledge across the RBA.
  • Lead complex governance workstreams across departments from design to implementation.
  • Develop capability in FOI matters and support the uplift of the FOI function.
  • Collaborate across internal governance, board governance and FOI to build resilience.

About the Team

Secretary’s Department supports governance, accountability and transparency across the RBA. It provides advice, coordination and specialist services spanning internal and board governance, parliamentary engagement, government relations, corporate disclosures and freedom of information.

The department works closely with senior leaders and teams across the RBA to strengthen decision-making, meet statutory and public accountability obligations and maintain public trust in the institution. It also provides secretariat support to the RBA’s three boards, the Audit and Risk Committee and Executive Committee.

About the Role

This newly created role, will lead the operational delivery and continuous improvement of the RBA’s internal governance arrangements. As Manager, Internal Governance, you will support the Senior Manager, Governance and FOI (Freedom of Information) and help embed a new enterprise function and develop effective practices for management committees, accountabilities, delegations and decision-making.

Operating with substantial autonomy, you will work with senior stakeholders to understand governance issues, develop proportionate and practical solutions, and lead implementation from design through to adoption. You will calibrate delivery to the RBA’s needs, listen to feedback and focus on arrangements that are fit for purpose and sustainable.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of internal governance frameworks, policies, standards and supporting materials
  • Providing practical advice to senior stakeholders on management committees, accountabilities, delegations and decision-making
  • Supporting committee chairs, secretariats and senior stakeholders to strengthen the operation and effectiveness of management committees and other internal decision-making forums
  • Ssupporting the implementation and ongoing administration of accountability and delegation arrangements, helping stakeholders understand and apply their responsibilities and decision authorities
  • Identifying and leading initiatives to simplify, standardise and strengthen governance processes, practices and controls
  • Developing guidance, training and communications that build governance knowledge, confidence and consistent practice across the RBA
  • Leading complex internal governance workstreams, coordinating input across departments and managing delivery from design through to implementation
  • Developing capability in FOI matters and providing flexible support for the uplift and management of the RBA’s FOI function.
  • You will work as part of an integrated team spanning internal governance, board governance and FOI. Through collaboration, cross-skilling and knowledge transfer, you will help build stronger coverage and resilience across the team while maintaining specialist expertise.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in governance, legal, public policy or a related discipline, ideally in financial services or the public sector
  • Strong knowledge of governance frameworks, accountabilities, delegations, committee practices and decision-making processes
  • The ability to independently assess complex issues and develop pragmatic, proportionate solutions
  • Experience leading complex governance workstreams and implementing process or organisational change
  • The ability to analyse governance information, identify risks and translate findings into practical improvements
  • Strong judgement, written communication and stakeholder management skills, including the confidence to advise senior leaders
  • The ability to listen, gather feedback and adapt your approach, while coordinating across teams and maintaining delivery momentum.

A tertiary qualification in law, governance, economics, business, public policy or a related discipline is required. A relevant governance professional qualification would be desirable.
