Job summary

SMEC in Brisbane is seeking an exceptional leader for the role of Manager, Engineering, Urban Infrastructure. You will lead a growing business unit, report to the QLD State Manager, and work with a multidisciplinary team across project lifecycle.

You will drive strategy, performance, client relationships and business development, ensuring projects meet budget, schedule and quality targets while aligning with SMEC’s vision and values.

Qualifications

  • 10–15 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to actively manage and drive performance across diverse teams.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and mentoring.
  • Relevant professional registrations and memberships.
  • Strong understanding of project management and governance.

The Role

We are currently seeking an exceptional leader for the role of Manager, Engineering, Urban Infrastructure, based in our Brisbane office, to lead a growing business unit. Reporting to the QLD State Manager, we are seeking an inspirational manager to play a vital strategic leadership role while supporting the significant growth strategies we have planned across the business. In addition to overseeing a team of engineers, designers and drafters, the successful applicant will work closely with our wider project management, surveying, planning and advisory teams across the full project life cycle.

Key Responsibilities

About You
  • Minimum of 10–15 years’ relevant industry experience
  • Demonstrated ability to actively manage and drive performance across diverse teams
  • Previous experience providing leadership, supervision and mentoring to a high‑performing multidisciplinary team
  • Relevant professional registrations and memberships
  • A strong understanding of project management and project governance
  • Successfully led multidisciplinary projects to budget and in line with client expectations
  • Effective collaboration skills with staff, contributors and clients to maintain quality timeliness and coordination of project deliverables
  • Excellent business development capabilities
