The Opportunity

Join Monash University cyber team in a key operational leadership role responsible for the performance, coordination, and continuous improvement of a 24x7 Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC) supporting a large, complex and globally connected environment.

As the Manager – CSOC, you will be responsible for driving the operational excellence, consistency, and maturity of the cyber security operations centre (CSOC) ensuring that detection, response, cyber investigations, and CSIRT functions operate in a cohesive, efficient, and risk-aligned manner.

You will standardise and optimise the CSOC operating model, uplift service delivery, and ensure the function is positioned to respond effectively to an evolving threat landscape spanning cloud, identity, SaaS, supply chain, and AI-enabled risks.

You will act as the senior escalation point during major cyber incidents, providing coordination, communication, and executive-level decision support. At the same time, you will own the end-to-end performance of the CSOC, including KPI definition, service metrics, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives that drive measurable outcomes.

A key aspect of the role is stakeholder engagement and influence. You will regularly present operational insights, risk posture, and performance outcomes to senior stakeholders, translating complex cyber concepts into clear, actionable intelligence that supports decision-making.

Working across technology, risk, governance, and external partners, you will ensure the cyber security operations centre is aligned with organisational risk appetite, regulatory obligations, and strategic priorities, while building a sustainable and high-performing operational capability.

About You

You are a proven cyber security operations leader with the ability to balance operational discipline, stakeholder engagement, and strategic uplift. You are comfortable operating in complex environments, leading distributed teams, and driving clarity and performance in high-pressure situations.

You will bring:

  • Proven experience leading or managing a Security Operations Centre (SOC/CSOC) within a complex enterprise environment, including geographically distributed teams
  • Strong expertise across detection, response, investigation, and CSIRT functions, with the ability to standardise and mature existing SOC capabilities
  • Demonstrated ownership of operational performance, including defining KPIs, managing service metrics, and delivering clear, data-driven reporting
  • Experience providing leadership during major cyber incidents, including coordination, escalation, and executive decision support
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to present to senior audiences and influence outcomes
  • Experience translating technical cyber security issues into clear risk-based insights and recommendations
  • Solid understanding of security frameworks and standards such as ISO 27001/27002, NIST, CIS, and familiarity with MITRE ATT&CK and modern threat landscapes
  • Experience working with third-party providers or managed services, ensuring accountability and service quality
