Job summary

James Cook University (JCU) invites applications for the role of Manager, Centre Research Training. This part-time, fixed-term position (4 days per week) supports the ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous and Environmental Histories and Futures, based at the Cairns Nguma-bada campus with flexible location arrangements for the right candidate.

As Manager, Centre Research Training, you will help advance researcher development across the ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous and Environmental Histories and Futures. Through on Country learning, mentoring, HDR internships and Indigenous researcher development, you will create meaningful opportunities for researchers to build capability, strengthen connections and progress their research careers.

• Part-time, fixed-term opportunity until 30 June 2030 | 4 days per week
• Academic Level C $137,166.79 - $157,465.62, plus up to 17% super
• Based at the Cairns Nguma-bada campus, with flexible location arrangements considered for the right candidate

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Manager, Centre Research Training leads the development and implementation of an ambitious Research Training and Ethics Program across the ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous and Environmental Histories and Futures. Working with Centre colleagues, researchers, communities and partner organisations, you will strengthen research capability and support the development of graduate researchers, early career researchers and Indigenous scholars.

You will oversee a diverse portfolio that includes on Country research training, a large-scale HDR internship program, mentoring and professional development activities, and the Indigenous Early Career Researcher Cohort Program. Through these initiatives, you will help create an inclusive and culturally informed environment in which emerging researchers can develop, connect and thrive.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

You are a collaborative and culturally capable academic leader with a PhD or equivalent qualification and substantial experience in tertiary education, graduate research support, supervision or researcher development. You bring the leadership, mentoring and program management skills needed to translate ideas into meaningful development opportunities for emerging researchers.

An effective communicator and relationship builder, you work confidently across academic, community and industry settings and engage respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Experience developing professional learning programs, masterclasses, short courses, internships or mentoring initiatives will be highly regarded.
