Job summary

Transport for NSW is seeking an experienced governance and assurance leader to drive risk, business continuity and compliance across Shared Services. You will shape policy, lead assurance activities and collaborate with executive teams to strengthen controls and resilience.

With a proven track record in audit, risk or compliance, you will manage complex stakeholder relationships, deliver practical improvements and mentor a high-performing assurance team in a large public organisation.

Qualifications

• Experienced leader in audit, assurance, governance, risk management or compliance.
• Capable of managing multiple priorities in a complex stakeholder environment.
• Skilled at assessing controls, interpreting audit findings and driving improvements.
• Knowledge of business continuity and risk management principles.
• Proactive, curious, relationship-focused and able to influence across functions.

Responsibilities

• Lead governance, assurance, risk and business continuity activities across Shared Services.
• Manage high-volume internal and external audit requests, ensuring timely responses and effective implementation of audit findings and recommendations.
• Oversee the branch risk register and control environment, proactively identifying risks, control gaps and opportunities for improvement.
• Drive business resilience planning and testing to ensure critical services can continue during system outages, disruptions or other incidents.
• Partner with stakeholders across Shared Services, Finance, Audit, Risk and Transport divisions to strengthen governance practices and improve business outcomes.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives, using data, insights and curiosity to identify issues before they become problems.
• Develop and support a team of assurance professionals, fostering a collaborative and customer-focused culture.

• You can confidently manage multiple priorities and navigate complex stakeholder environments to deliver practical and sustainable outcomes.
• You have experience assessing controls, interpreting audit findings and driving process improvements that strengthen organisational performance.
• You understand business continuity and risk management principles and can translate them into effective operational practices.
• You are a natural problem solver who enjoys investigating issues, identifying trends and challenging existing ways of working.
• Most importantly, you're proactive, curious and relationship-focused, with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive positive change across a broad range of business functions.
