Job summary

Richard Lloyd Recruitment – Sydney Western Suburbs NSW is seeking a cost accounting professional to own day-to-day finance activities, with a focus on inventory costing and cost control. You'll engage with operations across procurement, warehousing and logistics, drive accurate costing, manage SAP processes and monthly stock reconciliations, and support improved margins.

The role suits a CA/CPA or accountant working towards it, with experience in FMCG, retail or manufacturing.

Qualifications

• CA or CPA qualification, or working towards it.
• Strong cost and inventory accounting background in fast-paced product environments.
• Solid understanding of inventory costing, variances and reconciliations.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Inventory valuation including freight, duty and FX considerations.
• Labour costing: maintain rates in SAP and monitor KPIs.
• Cost control in partnership with Operations to review BOMs and margins.
• Stock accuracy: regular cycle counts and variance reconciliation.
• Stock health: manage reorder points and obsolete stock provisioning.
• Goods receipting: oversee SAP goods receipts and stock integrity.
• Business partnering with procurement, warehousing and logistics.

The Role

As a brand-new position, this role is yours to make your own. You'll take full ownership of your day-to-day while being supported to learn and develop. Expect plenty of stakeholder engagement and regular opportunities to partner with teams across the wider business, not just within finance

Key responsibilities include:

• Inventory valuation: Accurately cost raw materials and finished goods, factoring in freight, duty and FX.
• Labour costing: Maintain labour rates in SAP, recommend updates and track performance against KPIs.
• Cost control: Partner with Operations to review BOMs, cut wastage and keep project costs and margins on track.
• Stock accuracy: Run regular cycle counts, investigate and reconcile variances, and lead the annual audited stocktake.
• Stock health: Manage reorder points and stock turnover, and own obsolete stock provisioning.
• Goods receipting: Own the SAP goods receipting process, making sure system stock matches what's physically on hand.
• Business partnering: Work closely with operational teams across the business, including procurement, warehousing and logistics, to drive accurate costing and better stock outcomes.

Your Background

The ideal candidate background will include some of the following experiences

• Professionally qualified eg CA or CPA, or working towards it
• A strong background in cost and/or inventory accounting, gained in a fast-paced, product-based environment such as FMCG, retail or manufacturing
• Solid grasp of inventory costing, cost variances and reconciliations
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a sharp eye for detail
• Self-motivated and comfortable working autonomously, while managing your time well and consistently meeting deadlines
• Confident engaging regularly with non-finance stakeholders and building strong working relationships across the business
• Confident in Excel, with hands-on experience using ERP or accounting systems (SAP highly regarded)
• A proactive mindset, always looking for ways to improve processes and fix problems at the source
