Job description

The Management Accountant is an entry-level finance professional who supports the Financial Controller in delivering efficient and effective financial operations. The role contributes to continuous finance process improvement and is responsible for supporting month-end and year-end close activities, internal and external financial reporting, research account administration, financial research grant management, payroll, accounts payable, financial record maintenance, and compliance documentation. The position also provides analytical and administrative support across the finance function and undertakes ad hoc financial tasks and projects as required to support organisational objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Support and coordinate month-end and year-end financial close activities within Business Central
• Prepare and process ad hoc correction journals, including payroll, income recognition, investment, accrual, and prepayment journals
• Assist in maintaining the integrity of the month end general ledger and supporting financial records including general ledger analysis
• Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and investigate reconciling items
• Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reporting packs
• Provide variance analysis and commentary to support management reporting
• Support the administration and ongoing optimisation of Business Central and Solver Reporting, including user access maintenance, reporting structures and testing of system enhancements
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to automate reporting, streamline reconciliations, and improve financial processes
• Support the preparation and maintenance of the financial research grant funding reports

About you

• Degree qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups and data analysis
• Experience in month-end and financial reporting
• Practical accounting experience including reconciliations, journals, reporting
• Experience using financial systems such as Microsoft Dynamics
• Personal alignment with Ingham Institute values
• Ability to engage with a variety of audiences
• Strong communication skills (verbal, written and virtual)
• Strong attention to detail and highly organised
• Proven team player who takes own initiative in supporting and achieving team goals/objectives
