Job summary

Mitchell Shire Council is seeking a Maintenance Worker for the Roads Maintenance Team to contribute to building and maintaining road infrastructure across Victoria's fastest-growing regional shire.

You will operate a range of medium and heavy plant, assist with project delivery, and uphold high safety and service standards while ensuring accurate records and strong teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience operating medium and heavy mechanical plant including trucks, backhoes, loaders, skid steers, graders, rollers.
  • Ability to prepare basic resource estimates covering labour, plant, materials and time.
  • Strong commitment to safety and risk management on site.

Responsibilities

  • Safe and competent operation of medium and heavy mechanical plant and routine maintenance.
  • Prepare estimates of labour, plant, materials and time for works.
  • Provide basic direction and supervision to team members on projects when required.
  • Deliver quality customer service to internal stakeholders and residents.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete administration associated with the role.
  • Uphold Council policies and OH&S requirements at all times.

About the Opportunity

As a Maintenance Worker, you'll be an integral part of Mitchell Shire Council's Roads Maintenance Team, contributing directly to the upkeep and construction of road infrastructure across one of Victoria's fastest-growing regional shires. Working alongside an experienced crew, you'll bring specialist plant operating skills that complement the team and raise the standard of delivery on every project. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Safe and competent operation of medium and heavy mechanical plant, including trucks, backhoes, loaders, skid steers, graders, rollers, and tractors — along with routine plant maintenance
  • Preparing estimates of labour, plant, materials, and time required for various works
  • Providing basic direction and supervision to team members allocated to projects when required
  • Delivering quality customer service to both internal stakeholders and members of the public
  • Maintaining accurate records and completing all administration associated with the role
  • Upholding Council policies, OHS legislation, and risk management requirements at all times

This is a permanent, full-timeopportunity with a Fortnightly RDO. Remuneration begins at$74.1K to $77.8K (Band 3) plus superannuation.

About You

You're an experienced plant operator who takes pride in doing the job safely and to a high standard, and you're ready to bring those skills to a team that keeps Mitchell Shire's road network moving.

What You'll Bring
  • Proven experience operating medium and heavy mechanical plant, including trucks, backhoes, loaders, skid steers, graders, and rollers in a roads or civil maintenance environment
  • A current Victorian driver's licence, with a heavy vehicle licence or relevant plant tickets highly regarded
  • The ability to prepare basic resource estimates covering labour, plant, materials, and time
  • Confidence to provide on-the-ground direction to other team members when the work requires it
  • A solid understanding of occupational health and safety legislation and risk management practices, with a commitment to applying them every day on site
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach when dealing with colleagues, contractors, and Mitchell Shire residents
