Job summary

The Salvation Army in Brisbane invites applications for a part-time Maintenance Worker at Moonyah Recovery Services. The role involves hands-on maintenance across buildings and grounds, with electrical Test and Tag duties and a strong safety focus to keep the environment welcoming for residents and staff.

You will work 22.8 hours per week, supporting housing and recovery services while upholding high standards of care and compliance with WHS requirements.

Qualifications

• Experience in general maintenance, building or facilities maintenance.
• Understanding of workplace health and safety.
• Electrical Test and Tag competency is essential.
• Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks.

Responsibilities

• Complete general repairs across buildings, facilities and grounds.
• Carry out painting, carpentry, plumbing and equipment repairs within scope.
• Inspect facilities, identify hazards and maintain safety.
• Perform electrical Test and Tag duties per Queensland requirements.
• Respond to repair requests and keep maintenance schedules up to date.
• Liaise with Centre Manager, TSA Property Team and contractors.
• Maintain grounds and equipment while respecting residents' privacy.

Your maintenance skills will help keep that environment safe, functional and welcoming — making a real difference behind the scenes every day.

What You'll Be Doing

• Keep things running: Complete general repairs, preventative maintenance and handyman tasks across buildings, facilities and grounds.
• Fix it, maintain it, improve it: Carry out basic painting, carpentry, plumbing and equipment repairs within your qualifications and scope of work.
• Safety first: Inspect facilities, identify hazards and help ensure equipment and buildings remain safe and fit for purpose.
• Test and Tag: Carry out electrical Test and Tag duties in line with applicable Queensland requirements.
• Stay on top of maintenance: Respond to repair requests, maintain accurate records and help keep preventative maintenance schedules up to date.
• Work as a team: Liaise with the Centre Manager, Administration Team Leader, TSA Property Team and external contractors.
• Keep our environment welcoming: Maintain grounds, tools and equipment while working respectfully around residents and protecting their privacy and dignity.

What You'll Bring

• Previous experience in general maintenance, building or facilities maintenance.
• Strong practical repair skills and a sound understanding of workplace health and safety.
• Demonstrated competency in electrical Test and Tag — an essential requirement for this role.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to work independently and prioritise tasks.
• A flexible, can-do attitude and the ability to respond to changing maintenance needs.
• Good communication skills and a respectful, team-focused approach.
• A genuine commitment to maintaining a safe environment for residents, staff and visitors.
• Experience or an understanding of alcohol and other drug services, mental health, and the diverse communities we support would be highly regarded.

Essential Requirements

• Current Australian Driver's Licence.
• Demonstrated competency in electrical Test and Tag.
• National Police Check, or ability to obtain one.
• Completion of required organisational training, including Code of Conduct, WHS, and Bullying and Harassment.
