Job summary

Novotel Melbourne South Wharf, part of the Accor group, is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Supervisor to lead a small team and oversee day-to-day hotel maintenance.

The role focuses on safety, quality, guest comfort and efficient plant operations, with opportunities for training and career development within a global hospitality brand. The position is on site with some after-hours support.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' experience supervising maintenance operations, preferably within a hotel, hospitality or facilities environment.
• Trade qualifications in Electrical, Plumbing or Mechanical Engineering are advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of building services, plant and equipment maintenance.
• Proven ability to lead a small team while actively involved in day‑to‑day operations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across departments.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative and reactive maintenance to ensure guest comfort and operational efficiency.
• Supervise a team of two Handypersons and foster a positive team culture.
• Coordinate daily maintenance activities with the Director of Engineering.
• Diagnose, maintain and repair mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
• Monitor contractor work to meet Accor standards and manufacturer specs.
• Track energy use and identify opportunities for conservation and efficiency.
• Maintain records of maintenance, repairs, checks and compliance.
• Collaborate with Front Office and Housekeeping to minimise room downtime.
• Assist with rostering, safety inspections and training requirements.

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Maintenance Supervisor to join our Engineering team. Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, this is a key leadership role responsible for supervising a small team of two Maintenance Technicians while actively participating in the day-to‑day maintenance and upkeep of the hotel.

Job Description

As Maintenance Supervisor, you will play a vital role in ensuring the hotel's facilities, plant and equipment are maintained to the highest standards of safety, quality and guest comfort.

This is a working supervisor position, requiring a hands‑on approach to maintenance operations while providing leadership, guidance and support to the Engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventative and reactive maintenance throughout the hotel to ensure guest comfort and operational efficiency
• Supervise and support a team of two Handypersons, fostering a positiveteam culture.
• Prioritise and coordinate daily maintenance activities in consultation with the Director of Engineering.
• Diagnose, maintain and repair mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems and equipment.
• Monitor contractor activities and ensure all works meet Accor standards and manufacturer specifications.
• Monitor utility consumption, record meter readings and identify opportunities for energy conservation and efficiency improvements.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, compliance checks and statutory requirements.
• Work closely with Front Office and Housekeeping teams to minimise room downtime and expedite room returns to inventory.
• Assist with departmental rostering, safety inspections, reporting and training requirements.

Qualifications

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 2 years' experience supervising maintenance operations, preferably within a hotel, hospitality or facilities environment.
• Trade qualification in Electrical, Plumbing or Mechanical Engineering would be an advantage
• Strong technical knowledge of building services, plant and equipment maintenance.
• Proven ability to lead a small team while remaining actively involved in day-to‑day operations.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and solutions‑focused approach.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across all departments.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage priorities with minimal supervision.
• Guest-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering exceptional service standards.
• High level of computer literacy, includingMicrosoft Office Suite;HUB OS;Opera Cloud
• Flexible availability, including occasional weekends and after‑hours emergency support when required.
• Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance.
