Job summary

Sharp & Carter is seeking a hands-on Maintenance professional for a long-established food manufacturing site in Sydney. You will diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical equipment daily, build the maintenance program, and help shape a growing team from the ground up.

You will own equipment maintenance, work with long-tenured operators, and contribute to preventative maintenance initiatives. The role offers progression toward planning, scheduling and projects within a stable on-site setting.

Qualifications

• . Dual trade electrical and mechanical background.

• . Comfortable with CMMS, purchase orders and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical faults on site equipment such as mixers, conveyors, augers, blowers, packers and palletising lines.
• Fault-find on SCADA/PLC-driven lines and drive improvement.
• Take ownership of issues and propose a plan, including ordering parts and engaging contractors.
• Supervise and coordinate contractors, including running permits.
• Build out preventative maintenance tasks in the CMMS system (MEX CMMS).
• Raise purchase orders, track project spend in Excel and manage work orders to completion.
• Keep the workshop and critical spares organised for quick change-outs.
• Maintain a strong safety focus on every job and participate in on-call roster.

About the opportunity

We’re seeking a hands‑on Maintenance professional to join an established food manufacturing site in Sydney, running 24/5 with a stable, long-serving workforce. This is a working role. You’ll be on the tools every day, diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical equipment, and building the maintenance program as you go.

The maintenance team is currently small, with intention to grow it, starting with a Trades Assistant once the team is settled. You’ll help shape that team from the start.

Day shift, 6:00am to 2:00pm Monday to Friday

About the role

This is a floor‑based role for a tradesperson who wants to own the equipment and grow with the site. You’ll work alongside long‑tenured operators, come forward with your own plan to fix problems, and move the site towards preventative maintenance. As the team develops, the role is planned to move towards planning, scheduling and projects.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical faults on mixers, conveyors, augers, blowers, packers and palletising equipment

About you

You’re a hands‑on tradesperson who takes pride in your work, has a strong interest in machinery and makes sound decisions quickly without compromising on safety.

You will ideally have:

• A dual trade (electrical and mechanical)
• Alternatively, a fitter with a disconnect/reconnect licence, or an electrician comfortable picking up a spanner
• Hands‑on experience in a manufacturing or food processing environment
• Some supervisory or leadership exposure, or a clear interest in growing into it
• Comfort with a CMMS, purchase orders and basic Excel
• Clear English communication, important for safety on the floor
• Current working rights in Australia
