Job summary

Essity is seeking a Maintenance Leading Hand at our Springvale manufacturing site. You will oversee safe, reliable operation of assets, coordinate daily maintenance, and mentor trades personnel on a predominantly hands-on role.

Based at Springvale, you will spend ~80% on the factory floor troubleshooting and maintaining production equipment, with ~20% on leadership, planning and systems administration. This role offers a succession path to Maintenance Leader and exposure to TPM programs.

Permanent Day Shift | 7:00 am - 3:30 pm | 9-Day Fortnight with 1 Roster Day Off | Competitive salary as per our EBA rates

We're seeking an experienced Maintenance Leading Hand to join our Springvale manufacturing site. In this key role, you'll support equipment reliability, coordinate maintenance activities, mentor trades personnel, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the site.

This is an exciting opportunity for a mechanically qualified maintenance professional who enjoys leading from the front while remaining hands‑on. About the Role

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will support the safe, reliable and efficient operation of manufacturing assets across the Springvale site. Working closely with production and maintenance teams, you'll coordinate daily maintenance activities, provide technical guidance to trades personnel, and contribute to improving equipment reliability and operational performance.

This is a predominantly hands‑on position, with approximately 80% of your time spent on the factory floor troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining production equipment, and 20% focused on leadership, planning, coordination and maintenance system administration.

Importantly, this role has been identified as a succession opportunity for someone looking to progress to a future Maintenance Leader role.

What You Will Do

• Coordinate daily maintenance activities and prioritize resources to support production requirements.
• Lead by example in safety, environmental and housekeeping standards.
• Provide technical coaching, mentoring and support to maintenance of trades personnel.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve equipment faults to minimize downtime.
• Support preventative, predictive, and breakdown maintenance programs.
• Coordinate maintenance, shutdown planning, and execution activities.
• Champion root cause analysis and equipment reliability improvements.
• Monitor maintenance work orders, backlog management and SAP PM records.
• Work collaboratively with production teams to improve asset performance.
• Support TPM and continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
• Maintain accurate maintenance documentation and equipment history records.

Who You Are

• You are a mechanically qualified maintenance professional who enjoys solving technical challenges, supporting others to succeed, and leading by example.
• Mechanical Trade Qualification (Fitter & Turner or equivalent)
• Previous Leading Hand, supervisory or team leadership experience.
• Proven maintenance experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience working with high‑speed or fast‑moving production equipment.
• Strong fault‑finding, troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• A commitment to safety, reliability and continuous improvement.

Experience with SAP PM, project work, equipment rebuilds and overhauls, general machining, pneumatic systems, and reliability improvement programs such as TPM or Lean Manufacturing will be highly regarded. Relevant licenses including forklift, rigging, EWP or Working at Heights certifications would also be advantageous.
