Job summary

Kalfresh is seeking an Afternoon Shift Maintenance Fitter to maintain and optimise our automated food processing equipment at Kalbar, Scenic Rim. You will install, test, and continuously improve production lines, working with a cross-functional team to maximise uptime.

The successful candidate will have mechanical trade qualifications, 5+ years in automated packaging environments, and experience with TIG welding on stainless steel. Safety and clear documentation are essential.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, fault find, repair farming and processing equipment in a fast-paced production environment.

• Relocate or modify equipment and ensure proper testing before handover.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and implement continuous improvement.
• Mentor production staff in fault correction and troubleshooting.

Job description

We're looking for an Afternoon Shift Maintenance Fitter with experience in the improvement, optimisation & installation of our automated food processing equipment.

Our head office is situated in Kalbar, just 1 hour's drive from Brisbane and 1.5 hours from the Gold Coast, in the beautiful Scenic Rim.

Your new role:

Reporting to the maintenance manager and working as part of a cross functional operations maintenance team you will be focused on the reliability and maintenance of pre and post-harvest vegetable processing equipment. The installation, optimisation and continuous improvement of new and existing production lines will be your primary responsibility. The right person has a continuous improvement mindset and is just as comfortable in the workshop on welder or lathe as they are solving problems in the field or packing shed.

On any given day this job may include:

• Monitoring, operation, fault finding and repair of farming and processing equipment in a fast-paced production environment.

• Installation, set up and testing of new food processing and packing equipment.

• Installation or relocation, modification, testing and set up of new and refurbished equipment.

• Troubleshoot and fix equipment issues.

• Coach and mentor the production team to increase their knowledge of fault correction and troubleshooting.

• Maximise up-time through effective execution of all maintenance-related activities.

• Facilitate continuous improvement activities through broad system knowledge and site-specific enhancements.

About you

• Strong mechanical and/or electrical aptitude, with excellent fault finding and troubleshooting abilities.

• Mechanical trade qualifications required. Dual trades, or restricted electrical licenses, will be highly regarded.

• The ability to assimilate varied OEM technology and work with the various subcontractors in order to learn as much as you can.

• A TIG welder, with experience working with 304 and 316 stainless steels,

• Minimum 5+ years of experience maintaining automated packing equipment in a food processing environment, distribution centre or field service environment.

• A genuine interest in automation and technology, with the aptitude to learn new concepts and procedures.

• Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and making sure processes are documented simply.

• Strong communicator, with the ability to work effectively with multinational, cross-functional teams.

Meets the physical fitness requirements including:

• Work can be in the office, in the cold room facilities and out in the paddock in hot humid Queensland summer.

• Frequent walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, and standing for long periods of time.

• Lifting, pulling and pushing up to 25kgs unassisted.

• Ability to accurately identify colours including red, blue, white, yellow, and green.

This is a permanent full-time position based in our Kalbar office, so would ideally suit someone who lives locally or wanting a tree-change to the Scenic Rim region.
