Job summary

Laminex in Ballarat is seeking a Maintenance Electrician to ensure safe, reliable operation of electrical equipment across our manufacturing process. The role is a permanent 12-hour day shift, on a four-on, four-off cycle, with duties spanning fault-finding, PLC programming, and maintenance planning.

The ideal candidate holds an A-grade electrical licence and has experience in a manufacturing environment, with strong knowledge of PLCs, VSDs, motor control and CMMS systems.

Qualifications

• Industrial electrician with manufacturing experience.
• Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
• PLCs, VSDs, motor control, sensors and instrumentation knowledge.
• Ability to read/modify PLC programs (Siemens/Allen‑Bradley).
• Read and interpret electrical drawings and manuals.
• Familiar with CMMS (MEX) and plant maintenance processes.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate and maintain electrical equipment in manufacturing processes.
• Identify hazards, perform risk assessments and implement controls.
• Diagnose and repair faults across electrical, control, and automation systems.
• Read/modify PLC logic to support reliability and improvements.
• Maintain CMMS records and coordinate with production and maintenance teams.

About the Role:

As a Maintenance Electrician, you will be responsible for the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of electrical equipment supporting the manufacturing process.

Shift Pattern:

The position is a permanent 12-hour day shift role, working from 7:00am to 7:00pm on a rotating roster of four days on and three days off, followed by three days on and four days off.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Proactively demonstrating a personal commitment to safety and supporting our PROTECT safety culture.
• Complete job specific permits, identify hazards, conducting risk assessments, and implementing appropriate control measures.
• Performing efficient and effective fault finding to diagnose and repair plant and equipment outages.
• Troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing electrical, control, and automation systems across the site.
• Reading, interpreting, and modifying PLC programs to support fault finding, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Prioritising maintenance activities to maximise plant availability in coordination with Maintenance and Production Supervisors.
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records through the site's Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Working effectively within a team environment, collaborating with production, maintenance, and engineering personnel to achieve safety, reliability, and operational objectives.
• Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving safety, reliability, quality, and operational performance.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills/ experience:

• A-Grade Electrical Licence
• Experience working as an Industrial Electrician within a manufacturing or processing environment.
• Strong electrical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong knowledge of PLCs, VSDs (Variable Speed Drives), motor control systems, sensors, instrumentation, and industrial networks.
• Experience reading and modifying PLC programs (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar) to diagnose faults, improve equipment performance, and support continuous improvement activities
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Experience with automation systems and industrial control circuits.
• Strong understanding of electrical safety standards, isolation procedures, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements.
• Familiarly to conduct risk assessments and work safely in a high-risk manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team while building positive relationships across production, engineering, and maintenance functions
• Ability to work effectively in a team.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing positively to a team environment.
• Experience working with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as MEX is preferred
