Job summary

Itara Jacana Serviced Apartments in Riverway, Townsville, is seeking a practical maintenance professional to support 120 apartments and grounds. You will troubleshoot issues across guest rooms and common areas, perform minor repairs, gardening and general upkeep, and coordinate with qualified trades when needed.

You should be reliable, organized and able to prioritise urgent guest issues, with a current driver’s licence.

Qualifications

• Has previous experience in property, hotel or resort maintenance or a similar hands-on role.
• Confident troubleshooting of appliances, air-conditioning and plumbing issues.
• Able to work methodically to identify root causes and perform minor repairs.
• Good gardening and grounds-maintenance skills.
• Reliable, organized and capable of prioritising urgent guest issues.

Responsibilities

• Respond to guest and management maintenance requests promptly and professionally.
• Troubleshoot appliances (fridges, washing machines, dishwashers, ovens, TVs) and air-conditioning.
• Address minor plumbing issues (drains, taps) and carry out basic repairs.
• Perform basic painting, fixtures, doors and furniture repairs where appropriate.
• Maintain gardens, pathways and outdoor areas; assist rubbish collection prep.
• Record maintenance issues and coordinate with trades for specialist work.

Job description

This is a varied, hands-on role combining troubleshooting, general property maintenance, minor repairs, gardening and grounds upkeep across the serviced apartment complex. You'll help keep 120 apartments, buildings and grounds well maintained, safe and looking their best for guests and residents. A key part of this role will be responding to maintenance issues in guest apartments and identifying practical solutions quickly and professionally.

Key responsibilities

Responding to guest and management maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner

Troubleshooting problems with appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, ovens, televisions and other equipment

Checking and troubleshooting air-conditioning issues, including basic operational faults, filters and settings

Responding to blocked drains, slow drainage, leaking taps and other minor plumbing issues

Carrying out minor repairs to fixtures, fittings, doors, locks, furniture and appliances where appropriate

Basic painting and touch-up work

Identifying the cause of maintenance problems and determining whether they can be resolved in-house or require a qualified tradesperson then assisting and coordinating with qualified trades and contractors where specialist work is required

Recording maintenance issues and reporting completed work or follow-up requirements

Gardening, pruning, weeding and general grounds upkeep including leaf blowing and general upkeep of public areas

Keeping gardens, pathways, pool surrounds and outdoor areas neat and well presented

Co-Ordinating and handling rubbish bin emptying in readiness for Council collection

About you

Has previous experience in property, hotel or resort maintenance, handyman work, facilities maintenance, gardening, grounds maintenance or a similar hands-on role

Is confident troubleshooting a variety of problems in guest apartments and common areas

Has practical experience diagnosing issues with appliances, air-conditioning, plumbing, drainage, fixtures and fittings

Can work methodically to identify the likely cause of a problem rather than simply treating the symptom or calling an expert as a default response

Is practical and confident tackling a variety of minor repairs and maintenance jobs

Has good gardening and general grounds-maintenance skills

Can work independently and use initiative

Takes pride in keeping apartments, common areas and grounds clean, tidy and well presented

Is reliable, organised and able to prioritise urgent guest issues

Holds a current driver's licence
