Job summary

University of Sydney is seeking up to two Magma Research Associates / Magma Research Fellows to advance the Magma computer algebra system. Positions are on-campus at Camperdown, with collaboration between Sydney and MIT under the Simons Foundation.

Offered roles require a PhD in mathematics or CS, strong programming in C/C++ and Linux, and experience in computational mathematics or software development. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• The candidate holds a PhD in mathematics, CS, or related fields.
• Strong computational math background with algorithm development.
• Experience with Magma or similar CAS is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement mathematical algorithms for Magma integration.
• Engage with internal and external researchers and developers.
• Publish research on theory and algorithms; explore AI support for CAS.
