Job summary

voestalpine Railway Systems Australia Pty Ltd is seeking a Machinist to perform CNC and manual milling operations, ensuring components meet tight tolerances and production timelines. You will set up machines, verify programs, and inspect work with precision measurement tools.

The role requires CNC and manual machining experience, the ability to read engineering drawings, and a strong commitment to quality and safety.

Qualifications

  • Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade is required.
  • Experience in CNC and manual machining is expected.
  • CNC programming experience will be highly regarded.
  • Ability to interpret engineering and technical drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC double head milling machines and manual milling as required.
  • Set up machines, tooling and components for machining operations.
  • Proof new programs and verify against specifications.
  • Perform precision measurements to ensure dimensional accuracy.
  • Interpret technical drawings for component specifications.
  • Identify and resolve machining issues related to setup, tooling and programs.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and follow safety/quality procedures.

Job description

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Machinist is responsible for performing CNC and manual machining operations to produce components to required specifications, quality standards and production timeframes.

Key responsibilities
  • Operating CNC double head milling machines
  • Performing manual milling and machining operations as required
  • Setting up machines, tooling and components for machining operations
  • Proofing new programs
  • Completing precision mechanical measurements to ensure dimensional accuracy
  • Interpreting technical drawings for component specifications
  • Identifying and resolving machining issues relating to machine setup, tooling and programs
  • Performing routine operational maintenance and following all safety and quality procedures
About You
  • Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade
  • Previous experience in CNC and manual machining
  • CNC programming experience will be highly regarded
  • Ability to interpret engineering and technical drawings
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Good mathematical and precision measurement skills
  • Good communication skills and a positive, can-do attitude
  • Willingness to complete a Pre-Employment Medical, including Drug & Alcohol testing
