Job summary

Pacific National is Australia’s largest private rail freight operator, seeking a qualified Locomotive Driver or Driver's Assistant for our Sydney Freight Terminal in Chullora. You will operate locomotives safely, liaise with Train Control, and perform checks and servicing to keep the network moving.

Qualifications

• Locomotive driving experience is required.
• Certificate IV in Train Driving (or nearing completion) is required.
• Safety and compliance focus is essential.
• Basic computer literacy and a current driver licence are required.

Responsibilities

• Operate Mainline locomotives in compliance with safe working regulations and driver accreditation requirements.
• Liaise with Train Control to ensure efficient train operations and schedule adherence.
• Prepare and provision locomotives, including system checks and compliance documentation.
• Perform minor maintenance and first-level servicing activities.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external customers to meet operational needs.

We have an opportunity for a Qualified Locomotive Driver or Drivers Assistant to join our team at our Sydney Freight Terminal in Chullora.

What You’ll Do

As a Mainline Locomotive Driver, you’ll play a key role in delivering freight safely and on time.

Reporting to the Supervisor, you will:

• Operate Pacific National locomotives in compliance with safe working regulations and driver accreditation requirements.
• Liaise with Train Control to ensure efficient train operations and schedule adherence.
• Prepare and provision locomotives, including system checks and compliance documentation.
• Perform minor maintenance and first-level servicing activities.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external customers to meet operational needs.

What You’ll Bring

• Certificate IV in Train Driving (current or nearing completion): Please attach your certificate or proof of current study to your application.
• Proven locomotive driving experience.
• High regard for safety and compliance.
• Positive, team-focused attitude with ability to work autonomously.
• Basic computer literacy.
• Current full motor vehicle licence.
• Flexibility to work a 24/7 roster, including local and barracks work.
