Job summary

Mackay Regional Council is seeking a confident Local Laws Officer to join our Health and Regulatory team on a temporary full-time basis. This varied role covers animal management, parking compliance, and responding to property issues across the Mackay region.

Qualifications

• Experience in regulatory compliance is required.
• Ability to understand Acts, Regulations, Local Laws and Policies.
• Strong interpersonal skills for community engagement and conflict resolution.
• Excellent written communication for notices and correspondence.
• Good time management and prioritisation with data collection skills.
• Current QLD C Class Driver Licence or interstate equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Undertake inspections and patrols relating to animal management and Local Laws.
• Investigate non-compliance and issue infringement notices when required.
• Carry out regulated parking activities, including issuing infringements.
• Investigate abandoned vehicles and respond to overgrown properties.
• Collect and prepare evidence for legal action under Local Laws matters.
• Assist with care of animals impounded under Council’s authority.
• Inspect and license boarding and breeding kennels and racehorse stables.
• Participate in after-hours on-call and emergency rotations.
