Job summary

McArthur is seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join its Remuneration and Benefits team within a NSW local government organisation based in Oran Park. The role focuses on accurate, timely weekly payroll processing in a busy environment.

You will handle timesheets, reconciliations, adjustments and employee enquiries, with strong knowledge of NSW awards and payroll legislation. The position offers a 35-hour week, on-site parking, and a temporary full-time contract up to six months.

Qualifications

• Extensive payroll experience within local or state government.
• Demonstrated experience processing payroll using a computerised payroll system.
• The ability to interpret and apply the NSW Local Government State Award.
• Sound knowledge of employment legislation, payroll compliance and employee entitlements.
• Experience managing timesheets, payroll reconciliations and confidential employee information.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet strict payroll deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Preparing, processing and checking weekly payroll to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time.
• Reviewing and entering paper-based and electronic timesheets, including overtime, allowances and leave adjustments.
• Completing payroll reconciliations, investigating discrepancies and processing adjustments.
• Maintaining accurate employee payroll and personnel records.
• Interpreting and applying relevant awards, employment legislation and payroll procedures.
• Assisting with payroll deductions, superannuation, annual increases and year-end processing.
• Responding to employee payroll enquiries and liaising with internal stakeholders.
• Supporting payroll system improvements and other payroll-related activities as required.
