Job summary

Vertical Scope Group in Canberra is seeking an experienced TSPV Linux Systems Engineer to join a critical Defence environment. This permanent, full-time role focuses on hands-on Linux administration, patching and secure operations to keep mission-critical systems stable.

You will manage BAU tasks across Linux platforms, including patch management, incident resolution and collaboration with storage and database teams to ensure high availability. An active TSPV clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Experience in Linux system administration and engineering.
• Experience with patch management and routine maintenance.
• Strong troubleshooting across OS and infrastructure.
• BAU/operational support experience.
• Understanding of storage and database infrastructure.
• Ability to operate in a highly secure Defence environment.
• Must hold an active TSPV security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Provide BAU support and Linux-based system administration.
• Perform routine system maintenance, patching and security updates.
• Troubleshoot and resolve Linux operating system and infrastructure issues.
• Support the infrastructure underpinning enterprise storage and database environments.
• Monitor system health, investigate incidents and help maintain system availability.

About the Opportunity

Vertical Scope Group (VSG) is seeking an experienced TSPV Linux Systems Engineer to join a team supporting a critical Defence environment in Canberra.

This is a permanent opportunity for a hands-on Linux professional who enjoys maintaining secure, reliable infrastructure and supporting the day-to-day operation of mission-critical systems.

The role has a strong focus on Business-as-Usual (BAU) operations, including Linux system administration, patching, maintenance and troubleshooting. The underlying infrastructure supports storage and database environments, making system stability, availability and security essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide BAU support and ongoing administration of Linux-based systems.
• Perform routine system maintenance, patching and security updates.
• Troubleshoot and resolve Linux operating system and infrastructure issues across multiple technical layers.
• Support the infrastructure underpinning enterprise storage and database environments.
• Monitor system health, investigate incidents and help maintain system availability.
• Identify and resolve operational issues, escalating complex problems where required.
• Work collaboratively with technical teams to maintain the reliability, security and performance of critical systems.
• Follow established operational procedures and security requirements within a Defence environment.

Skills and Experience

• Demonstrated experience in Linux Systems Administration or Linux Systems Engineering.
• Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems, system maintenance and patch management.
• Proven troubleshooting skills across operating systems and infrastructure layers.
• Experience supporting enterprise infrastructure in a BAU or operational support environment.
• Understanding of storage and database infrastructure.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to incident resolution.
• Ability to work effectively in a highly secure and structured technical environment.
• Must hold an active TSPV security clearance.
