Job summary

FGI Developments in Cairns, QLD is seeking an experienced Licensed Electrician to join our growing team. The role covers residential, commercial and industrial projects, with responsibilities to install, maintain and repair electrical systems on-site.

You will work across projects, read blueprints, ensure compliance with Australian standards, mentor apprentices and respond to service calls. A current Queensland electrical licence and 3–5 years post‑apprenticeship experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Current and valid electrical licence issued by the Queensland regulatory authority.
• 3–5 years post-apprenticeship experience as a licenced electrician.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems and AS/NZS 3000 standards.
• Ability to read electrical blueprints and drawings.
• Experience working at heights and in confined spaces with required certifications.

Responsibilities

Job description

FGI Developments is seeking an experienced Licenced Electrician to join our growing team in Cairns, QLD. This is a full-time position offering the opportunity to work on diverse electrical projects across residential, commercial and industrial sectors. You will be responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing electrical systems whilst ensuring all work meets Australian electrical safety standards and regulations. This role is essential to our operations, as you will contribute directly to the quality and safety of our projects, working both on-site and in our Cairns location.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain and repair electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures in accordance with blueprints, technical drawings and Australian electrical codes
• Perform diagnostic testing and troubleshooting to identify electrical faults and implement corrective solutions
• Conduct safety inspections and ensure all electrical work complies with relevant legislation and safety standards
• Collaborate with construction teams, project managers and other tradespeople to ensure projects are completed on schedule and to specification
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used and hours worked on each project
• Operate and maintain electrical tools and equipment safely and responsibly
• Provide guidance and mentoring to apprentices and junior electricians where applicable
• Respond promptly to emergency electrical issues and service calls

What we're looking for

• Current and valid electrical licence issued by the relevant Queensland regulatory authority
• Extensive practical experience as a licenced electrician, ideally with a minimum of 3–5 years post-apprenticeship experience
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, wiring practices, safety regulations and Australian electrical standards (AS/NZS 3000)
• Competency in reading and interpreting electrical blueprints and technical drawings
• Proven ability to work safely at heights and in confined spaces with appropriate certifications where required
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
• Strong communication skills and a professional approach to client interactions
• A valid driver's licence and reliable transport to attend multiple job sites
• First aid certification and willingness to complete ongoing professional development and training
• Relevant experience in commercial or industrial electrical work is highly desirable
