Job summary

Wellington Shire Council is seeking a Senior Library Officer to lead the day-to-day operations of Yarram Library until October 2027. This part-time role (0.8 EFT) sits within the Yarram Hub, guiding staff, coordinating rosters and delivering a welcoming library experience for the community.

You will supervise staff, support programs like Storytime, and engage with residents to provide high-quality services, collections and digital resources while maintaining a safe, well-presented branch.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising staff in a library or customer-focused environment.
• Strong organisational skills with roster prep and prioritisation.
• Leadership style with coaching and feedback.
• Ability to engage children and families through library programs.
• Excellent customer service and problem-solving abilities.
• Genuine interest in literacy and community learning.
• Ability to access digital resources with Microsoft 365 skills.
• Willingness to obtain ALIA qualification and Working with Children/National Police Checks.
• First Aid and CPR are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the day-to-day operation of Yarram Library, coordinating staff, workloads and branch priorities.
• Prepare and manage rosters, arrange relief coverage and respond flexibly to staffing needs.
• Lead, coach and support staff, new employees, volunteers and placement students to deliver high-quality service.
• Provide friendly frontline service, assisting users with information, resources, technology and services.
• Deliver community programs and Storytime, and support marketing and engagement activities.
• Respond to enquiries, complaints and incidents in line with Council policies.
• Support collection maintenance, branch presentation and engagement activities, and co-ordinate homelibrary services.
• Build positive relationships with library users and community groups to keep the branch welcoming and well organised.
