Job summary

Wellington Shire Council in Victoria is seeking a Senior Library Officer to lead the day-to-day operations of Yarram Library until October 2027. The role combines frontline service with branch supervision, staff coaching and program delivery in a welcoming community hub.

You’ll supervise rosters, support Storytime and community programs, manage collections, and build strong relationships with library users and local groups.

Qualifications

• Including experience supervising staff in a library or customer-facing setting.
• Strong organisational skills for rosters and workload balancing.
• Leadership style with coaching and practical guidance.
• Ability to engage children, families and community members through programs like Storytime.
• Excellent customer service and problem-solving abilities.
• ALIA-accredited library qualification or eligibility.
• Current Victorian driver licence and ability to obtain Checks.
• First Aid and CPR are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Supervise day-to-day operation of Yarram Library and coordinate staff.
• Prepare rosters and arrange relief coverage for staffing needs.
• Lead and coach staff, volunteers, and placement students.
• Provide friendly frontline service with information and digital resources.
• Deliver community programs, including Storytime sessions.
• Respond to enquiries and incidents per Council policies.
• Support collection maintenance, presentation, marketing and engagement.
• Build positive relationships with users and community groups.
