Job summary

MAYDAY Recruitment is recruiting a Senior Litigation Advisor (Workers Compensation) to provide expert legal and technical guidance across complex workers compensation matters. The role focuses on statutory litigation, advising claims teams and coordinating external counsel within a collaborative legal function.

Based in Sydney with hybrid working options, the position offers a pathway to drive strategy, compliance and positive claim outcomes while supporting ongoing professional development

Qualifications

  • Experience managing complex workers compensation litigation.
  • Strong knowledge of Workers Compensation legislation and reforms.
  • Experience advising claims teams on statutory matters.
  • Tertiary legal qualifications.
  • Admission as an Australian Legal Practitioner.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex statutory workers compensation litigation from commencement to resolution.
  • Coordinate legal referrals, instruct external panel firms, and manage litigation strategy.
  • Provide expert advice on workers compensation legislation, regulations, policy and legal developments.
  • Manage and review section 151Z recovery claims and related litigation.
  • Review legal correspondence and provide timely recommendations to internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor relevant case law and legislative updates, ensuring claims strategies remain current and compliant.
  • Partner with operational claims teams by providing practical technical guidance on complex matters.
  • Attend conferences, mediations and hearings where required, while monitoring litigation outcomes and reporting.

Senior Litigation Advisor – Workers Compensation

MAYDAY Recruitment is excited to partner with a leading organisation within the workers compensation and personal injury sector to recruit an experienced Senior Litigation Advisor.

This is an excellent opportunity for a legally qualified workers compensation professional who enjoys managing complex statutory litigation while providing expert technical guidance to claims teams. Working as part of a collaborative legal function, you will play a key role in driving positive claim outcomes, managing legal strategy, and ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.

This permanent opportunity is based in Sydney, offering a hybrid working model with flexibility to work from home up to three days per week.

The Role

Reporting to the Legal Team Manager, you will provide expert legal and technical advice across complex workers compensation matters, with a focus on statutory litigation and recovery claims.

You will work closely with claims teams and external legal providers to ensure matters are managed efficiently, strategically, and in line with legislative requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage and oversee complex statutory workers compensation litigation from commencement through to resolution.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience managing complex workers compensation litigation within a personal injury environment.

  • Strong technical knowledge of Workers Compensation legislation, including both pre and post-2012 legislative reforms.

  • Experience providing legal or technical advice to claims teams on complex statutory matters.

  • Tertiary legal qualifications.

  • Admission as an Australian Legal Practitioner and post-admission legal experience will be highly regarded.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and analytical skills.

  • The ability to manage competing priorities while delivering exceptional service to both internal and external stakeholders.
