Job summary

The University of Melbourne invites applications for a tenure-track role to lead innovative statistical research for omics data. You will teach and supervise across statistics and data science, collaborating with world-class experts through MIG.

The successful candidate will build an independent, internationally visible research program, secure external funding, and contribute to leadership and curriculum development within the School and Faculty.

Qualifications

• Hold a PhD or equivalent in statistics or a closely related quantitative discipline.
• Demonstrate a strong publication record in statistical methodology or computational biology.
• Develop novel statistical methods for high dimensional or complex biological data, including genomics or transcriptomics.
• Show success securing competitive research funding and capacities for national or international collaborations.
• Excel in designing and teaching statistics or data science subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Responsibilities

• Lead an independent, high impact research programme in statistical methods for high dimensional omics and related data.
• Publish in leading statistics and computational biology venues, and actively seek competitive external research funding.
• Design and deliver engaging undergraduate and postgraduate subjects in statistics, data science, and applied mathematics.
• Supervise and mentor honours, MSc and PhD students, supporting their development as independent researchers.
• Contribute to School, Faculty and MIG leadership, governance, outreach and engagement activities.
