Job summary

The University of Melbourne invites applications for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Applied Mathematics in the School of Mathematics and Statistics. This continuing, full‑time role offers a competitive salary with 17% superannuation and a vibrant, research‑intensive environment.

You will conduct independent research, disseminate results, supervise MSc and PhD students, develop undergraduate and postgraduate subjects, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver data‑driven mathematical methods

• Hold a PhD or equivalent in applied mathematics or related discipline.
• Demonstrate research excellence through high-quality publications and international recognition.

• Develop and deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including supervision of MSc/PhD students.

What you will deliver:

• Conduct independent research, disseminate results in leading outlets, and contribute actively to research seminars and conferences.
• Seek and secure external research funding, and supervise MSc and PhD students within an inclusive, supportive research environment.
• Prepare, deliver, and assess undergraduate and postgraduate subjects, including curriculum development and effective use of modern technologies.
• Provide academic mentoring, oversee coursework study programmes, and lead education for diverse student groups.
• Provide leadership and service to the school, university, and the discipline.

• Demonstrate research excellence through high-quality publications and growing or established recognition in the international mathematics community.
• Build productive research collaborations and secure competitive external funding from national and international schemes.
• Develop and deliver high quality mathematics teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including subject coordination responsibilities.
• Supervise MSc and PhD students effectively, with clear evidence or potential for successful graduate supervision.
• Contribute to interdisciplinary research, large‑class teaching or community engagement aligned with the School’s strategic priorities.
